Please Help Me Get My Oltcit MOTed

I need a help to find a flexible rear brake pipe for my Oltcit 1100R/Citroen Axel. Can anybody sell me one? Or help me find somewhere I can buy one?

I have tried my usual motor factors and Citroen specialists but can’t find any other car it shares its part with. Mike Harker from the CCC has tried a couple of people in Holland who have/had Axels with out success and he found a Romanian site that listed it but my translator says it’s out of stock.

I have tried a couple of Hydraulic pipe makers who can’t get the ends, Pirtek were confident they could make any hydraulic pipe until they measured the ends and a company that supplies the kit car industry looked hopeful but again could not find the ends.

I have put my problem onto the Romanian forum but so far all I have is someone offering to see if he can find a second-hand one, which is not really what I want.

The Oltcit flexible pipe is very similar to an early 2CV but has 8mm internal connections and not 9mm of the 2CV

Kind regards

Blimey! Is it possible to change the attaching pipes, so that they'll join to a more easily findable hose?

Just a suggestion.............can you get an engineering company to knock you up a couple of adaptors that you could screw onto the 8mm fixing that would take it out to 9 mm?

I have tried a couple of hydraulic companies unfortunately they can't get the ends.

I will talk to the garage that has my Oltcit to see if we can add adapters, I have already bought a 3.5mm pipe to 10mm male adapter from a 2CV centre in the hope there might be able to do something but it would be easier just to fit the right hose.

Thanks

Might be a long shot but a company called Classic Brakes 01626 891645. They helped me out a few years ago with some odd bits of an old Skoda that i had spent ages trying to find...

Try Speedy Spares- in Brighton. They have access to someone who hgas made me all sorts of weird flexis -promptly & for little money.

Sarah, the boss -will relish the challenge.

Tell them you need the rear brake hose for the 2CV with M14x1.5 threads each end and 304mm length.

It should be around 16€ plus postage.

Try the mister-auto website they have a bunch of Citroen Axel spares, worth a look, quite cheap and reasonable delivery times.

Does it actually matter that the internal diameter is different? My physics isn't quite up to scratch.

I know smaller diameter increases pressure but whats a mm between friends?

The 8mm internal hole is the one the brake line connects too. The 14mm male is used to mount the pipe to the body.

I did ask Pirtek but they were not happy to use the original ends, as they would have to drill out the crimped end to make it fit the new pipe.

I asked the garage who have the car if we could helicore a new 9mm 2cv flexible pipe to make it 8mm but they were not happy to do that.

This afternoon I took my pipe to Automec to try and buy some fittings so another flexible pipe would fit. They showed me how difficult that was going to be because the flare in the 3.5 mm pipe is not at the end but did phone a supplier who thinks he can make a new flexible pipe, so I have let them send off my original and we will see what happens.

Thanks Chris

I didn't realise there was a female and a male thread on each end!!!! What a set-up.

It seems to me that the male thread could be 'managed without' or it could be any old size as long as you can find a nut to go on it, as long as the pipe is secure.

I have spoken to Rob he replaced the metal brake pipes on my car before I owned it but did not have to do anything with the flexible ones at the time.

Like Boll said really........you could use the rear flexi from mk4/5 cortina and just make up new pipes that connect to it. The reason I suuest the cortina one is that I seem to remember it has a long threaded section for fixing to body and axle and then a female pipe nut uses the same thread.

The good News - Automec in Buckingham have had new flexible pipes made for me and I collected them today. With some luck the Oltcit will get it's new MOT next week.

Thanks for all your ideas Chris.

If you ever need help with translations, let me know, our housemate is from Transylvania, the Hungarian speaking bit of Romania, although she can speak Romanian as well. Her family and friends are under instructions to keep on the lookout for an Oltcit for me.
