Need a Renault 25 rear compensator

Recommended Posts

A friend/ colleague of mine is having a Renault 25txe issue. His rear brake compensator is leaking -and he cant find a replacement. Brake pedal is now virtually non existant, its running short on legalities -and he's quickly running out of options.

So -to the knowledgeable out there- is there an alternative/way around this, acceptable to an MOT tester?

Thanks a lot

(Its NOT mine - I dont want/ need a third, but I'm concerned this tidy car could end up crushed)

Hi Nigel,

I have an Alpine GTA one in the garage. There's a possibility it's the same? Maybe you could check on yours?

Cheers,

Martin

Or failing that I got a complete set of side glass of a chap on here who is based in Worthing. He had shed loads of old Renault stuff squirreled away

Martin -hi. Its not mine, will a TXE one be the same as my turbo? How much, please?

And thanks for the link to Paul, In Worthing. I know him well -already awaiting a return call!

Just trying to help a mate in distress..

There's rumoured to be a 25 TXE in a local (Cheltenham) yard.

I can go and see if it's still there at the weekend if it helps, if you tell me what to look for I can have a go at seeing if the the rear brake thingy is still on it as well (Don't know much about brakes, I always left those to someone who knew what they are doing!!)

Just checked the GTA parts book and the compensator has a 60 prefix part number which means it's Alpine only so I don't think it will fit sorry Nigel.

What about 25v6turbo (Dave) from on here maybe he has one in his spares hoard?

There was a 25 txe in Harry buckland's scrapyard in churchdown a fEw weeks back.

Thanks Guys, much appreciated. Sadly, it does indeed seem to be a flaming nightmare. There are several types ( non interchangeable, natch) fit nothing else & a total mare to remove. So -till we get the old one off I dont even know what we need. And its under the middle of the car- so there's no chance I'll be doing it!

I'm also told that they fail regularily if the vehicle isnt used- so I best look to mine! Bypassing isnt seemingly an option, either.

Gawd -I can see this all going horribly wrong

Harry bucklands it's on he left as you enter about eight rows up. Blue metallic. And I never knew you were local Anthony?

Car seems to be mine now! Owners given up on it -and just driven it over to my gaff? Its seems to be a nice one too -so I'm going to have to make space & crawl underneath.

So thats another Renault for the collection Mr Bickle. Does it need anything else apart from the compensator?

That looks fantastic, how could you give up on that for something as trivial as brakes ... Surely theres an alternative should the original compensator be unavailable.

What a nice car. I hope that it can be fixed :)

Seems strange- I'm sure there's a catch.

It has to be solvable -even if I have to get the damn thing rebuilt. I'll find a way

Bickle you mad bastard. How am I not surprised in any way that this has ended up with you owning the thing... It does look very nice though!

Even my mrs is laughing at this -its obvious to her i didnt plan this.

As far as I was concerned -I was helping him out. i guess he'd just run out of steam -and dumped it on me for very little money (which he hasnt had yet cos i wasnt here)

Corr that is a cracker, it's no doubt got more toys and poke than my 25 GTS. Auto or manual?

Has it got a V6 front end? Didn't think those headlights came with any other spec.

That's what i thought. The specs on these seem to be a bit random sometimes. I prefer the separate indicator setup of these dual headlight jobbies.

Well I'll be -thanks for pointing that out. My V6turbo has got 'ordinary' lightsin because one was shafted & I couldnt find another for the MOT. So the 2 litre has V6 lights, the V6 2 litre beams.

Its a manual. Seems to go OK - for a car with no brakes

It looks well worth persevering with, so good luck sorting the brakes Nigel.

Do any of your 25s suffer from cloudy front and rear screens? I thought mine was just down to needing a good clean inside and out, but when the sun is low in the evenings I can hardly see out of the windscreen  Can't imagine a replacement screen for one of these will be cheap, or might even be NLA.

They all look fine -but I hardly ever use the turbo -and I havent yet collected the Phase 1- despite paying for it nealry a year ago! Cripes!

So-I've no idea- sorry. There are some on this forum with much more 25 knowledge than I -and main dealer experience.

No worries, I'll live with it (or just not drive it with the sun out!).

There's a B-reg phase 1 GTX lives near me, must remember to get a photo of it next to mine. Strangely the owner has taken the original GTX alloys off and replaced them with some more modern Renault wheels, makes it look RONG.

I'm sure I've seen this "fixed" on a van by replacing the compensator with a t-peace. It was the kind that had a lever that got pushed down the more weight that got put on the rear of the van. Might not be ideal but it passed an mot.

Hi,

the part number is 7701349788, according to my Dialogys... I know it is a shite job to change them. Very nice car, by the way.

Thus this one would fit: http://www.renault5parts.co.uk/p341996/ ... _info.html

The single & double beam is part of the Renault tradition: R16 TX and R30 had double headlights, R20 and other R16 single headlights.

Yours is a TXI, 12 Valve 2.0L. Renault installed the double beam headlights on their executive R25, those with electric seats (equipments E4 and E5, Versions Turbo-dX, tXi, V6 injection, V6 turbo, but not the TXE)

p.s. did you solve the problems with your v6 turbo? What was it?

Posted

Daniel -thats brilliant! Thanks.

I'll delay ordering until I'm certain its the compensator -I'll try to find time in the week to check the system over. Thank you

Which specific prob on my 25T? It had loads of stupid, stupid issues, which took an age. Its roadworthy now (MOT'd ect, but not needed right now, so ''resting'')

Hi,

I am happy to help.

Wasn't the turbo running rich and stalling or something?

Make sure to check the tappets of the TXI now and then. They like to eat valves. The engine seems to love being trashed, the valves less so. Because the Multivalve is not really torquey, Regie lowered the gearing ratio of these compared to the 2.0 8 Valve. Not bad, performace wise but you will notice that your Turbo is not really less economical.

My V6 turbo is on halt as well. I just fixing up my new flat and running an Espace on LPG is much cheaper... :(

Cheers. yes -everything was wrong with the Turbo -wouldnt run ,cut out every 4 miles (took5 attempts to actually get to the MOT where it failed on 40+ points!). Persisntence paid though -and it seems to be reliable now -although in reality its not gone far. I even fitted a towbar -but I've other far better towcars. its just needlessly complicated...

Appreciate the heads up. I doubt I'll own it long enough to worry -I dont need 3 25's. Does seem nice though -shame. We'll see- perhaps I'll love it.
