Matra Murena back on the road (was: suspension parts)

Hello, does anyone please know of a dead or dying Matra Murena from which I could ransack the rear trailing arms? Probably not, as any heapish Murena will likely have rotten suspension bits (these being the only bits of the car that rust), but I thought that it might be worth asking the assembled shiteocracy. Cheers.

Theres a dude on French eBay with one arm thats been blasted and painted, for €200. Or a pair which have got some ‘minor rust problems’, also for €200. Do either of those sound appealing? If so i could give him a shout for you, could probably broker a deal of some sort.

Can yours be welded up? They look like a steel pressing from what I can gather. Any pics of yours?

Merci bien, Monsieur les Couilles. One of my suspension arms is knacked, the other less so. No photos as the bits are in situ in a dark garage. I might be tempted by the French ones, although I wonder how much rust is a little.

The splendid Matra and assorted old heaps guru, Roy Gillard of Redwood RS (£25 an hour, and he comes to you, top bloke), has located one suspension arm for me, and the other one can be repaired, so the Merdemobile may once more affright the populace quite soon.

Excellent. I really like these. How sports cars should be. Really quite comfortable, even three up!

Posted

Yes, and two up it is really roomy, with a decent boot, whilst still being a small car in terms of road space. The Murena could have been a real winner, but fell victim to corporate politics after only three years of production. Mine has been converted to S spec, so it is quite rorty, noisy, and quick. The seats are covered with the same naff fabric that Linda Lusardi used for her knicks in porno shoots in early 80s "Mayfair"*. Classy.

*Allegedly. Naturally, I know nothing of such things.

Merveilleuse!

Mental Matra Murena mashes MOT in move for motoring Mayhem!

Now I'm legal to commit terror upon the populace at large. Ooooh fuggin la la!

The seat fabric's pattern makes my eyes go weird

Chod-tastc, isn't it?

When I was a lad, Linda Lusardi used to have her special porn knickers made from that stuff.

Mental! Love it. That has to be one of the best boot-badgings of all time.

Note also comedy Council House ASBO exhaust system. Lots of noise, sod all go.

That's awesome. One of my fave cars. Three breast seats are win++

Really? I thought these were relatively quick, if not fast.

Gorgeous looking car Breadvan72, these are making me think about my first lhd motor, as (unless I'm mistaken) Murena's were never available in rhd.

The French seem to take a relaxed approach to sports car performance. You could even specify a miserable 1.6! They were LHD only - which is a bloomin' shame.

Posted

My one is actually quite fast, as it has been upgraded to S spec with a sporty cam and two big drinky Dellorto 35s. I was just knocking the jokey exhaust.

The Bagheera was slow, and the 1.6 Murena is said to be slow, but the ordinary 2.2 is nippy and the 2.2 S is fast. The handling is DA NUTZ.

Plans for a V6 version never came to anything. One test car even had a V12 Matra F1 engine bolted on, allegedly, but that was just too daft.

All Murenas are indeed LHD. This is cool for Euro trips, and in London you can take more accurate aim at the pizza delivery dudes. Mine came from Germany (car, not pizza), via Newcastle and Ireland. It has had a spray job using a BMW blue. Some twint took it into lots of swirly whirly car washes. Arse.

Look on French and German websites, but they cost almost double what they do here if you buy in Europe.

Contact Roy Gillard at Redwood RS for Murena guru know how. He got mine through the MOT with no probs, and is MurenaMeister General of Europe.

That is très nice, you've got some great cars! Is/was it for sale as the very first pic suggests?

Posted

Merci buckets! I am keeping this one, and selling some of my other heaps. The first pic was from the for sale ad that led me to buy the car from a bloke in Waterford, Ireland.

Many years ago a friend bought one of these & the chap selling was at great pains to tell new buyer how cheap the insurance was.

It turned out because Murena didn't appear on insurance company list, they'd thought he said Marina & consequently insured a 2.2 LHD coupe thing

for about thirty bob!

Ah merci boh koo! Saves me making up excuses and stuff. Have we seen your Europa (or ad) yet? Just curious...

De rien!

Here's the ad for the Europa.

I might have to sell my Elan, too. Boo hiss, but sad family circs dictate a fleet reduction.

Sorry to hear about the circumstances forcing sales...

I am so going to save up for one of those Elans, one day I will own one. Maybe. Yours sound like the best version.

Meanwhile, here's a Dutch Murena site: http://www.matramurena.nl/algemeen-hoofdpagina.php

O.a. there's a few brochures and a manual under 'Documentatie' and 'Werkplaatshandboek'.

I have brochure from 1982, which shows Eurobloke, wife, and mistress, off in the Murena for a weekend of threes-up filth.

 If it is just you and one other person, do you have to leave the middle seat empty so as not to mess with the balance?
Posted

That depends on whether that other person is some skanky-ass ho, or your granny. Anyone whose granny IS a skanky-ass ho may face a conundrum.
