Trade insurance

After paying 90 quid per month for a 350 quid 1.3 car (alongside 20 quid for a 3.0 one) I'm looking at getting trade insurance.

I already got a quote last year but didn't go through with it but think now is the right time as my 'fleet' starts expanding!

Which one do you use and what do you pay? :)

I've thought about this a lot though have always been put of due to having to cancel my 4 existing policies and loosing out on the refund. What I'd really like is something to cover my bikes, cars and van and all the old tut I keep picking up and need to get to home/mot/weighbridge/run about to see how worthy it is. It would be soo much easier to have them all on one policy.

I should be on commission for them Warren, found another couple of customers for them last couple of weeks.

What do people pay for multicar insurance? Or trade? I pay roughly £100 pa per classic each on a seperate policy, except the FSO was £250 due to being lhd. I am 25, at 18 I paid £2400 on a '94 Ford Escort Si 1.6 16v that was slower than my '92 Charade 1.3 Autorocket

I'm 21 and still get ageist knobbed on... but the dispassionate "grouping" system annoys me the most.

Fabia 1.9 diesel 65hp: group 2

BX 1.6 90hp (apparently): group 8

Dad's Astra CDTi 100hp: group 6

And his old car, Astra 1.6 90hp: group 5. eh?

Don't you need to prove that you are a car trader by providing receipts and stuff? Will you be covered when you take your car on the family holiday? I deal with tons of shite so maybe I can convice them that i'm a "part time trader"

You're covered for most stuff Tim, but if you have an accident or make a claim they want to know absolutely EVERYTHING. Receipts, adverts for cars bought or sold, the whole shebang.

Another potentially stupid question - Would having trade insurance then mean that you are a car trader and have to abide by all the laws etc that go with it?

i did try speaking to a few places and they were very adverse to covering me, although my car swapping at that point was 4 or 5 a year.

Mine has trebled in the last five years. According to my broker it's because so many people getting trade policies, crashing and claiming. The reason they were cheap is because the unwritten rule with them has always been "don't fucking claim", but people who blag they're traders have a nasty habit of claiming for things instead of fixing it themselves.

If you're in the trade as you say, you're kind of expected to fix things without claiming. You're in the trade. You should be able to fix things.

Multicar classic policies are good - but often have 20 year cut-off. I'm paying less than £200 to insure three classics with all the usual benefits. Tempted to try one of those 'bundle' packages where you can cover one modern and several classics - seeing as that's the position I'm in at the moment.

I'd have thought that if you are not a trader and have no involvement with the motortrade then you are giving them an absolutely enormous get out clause should you ever need to claim or have any involvement with them...

I use primo plc wih chaucer as the fleet insurer. One of the benefits is fully comp insurance on any car not belonging to me.

I've just changed my trade insurer cos of a truly shocking renewal quote, my new insurer isn't as liberal with what I can have.

I can no longer own an Ice cream van, regardless of whether it's ancient or justified, no glassfibre cars either so I'm wondering how wobbed the Mercedes can be before it's on the banned list. Steam vehicles are on the refer list so no K Series powered Metros either.
