Rover Sterling fastback, 2L manual £375

Spotted this beaut in a south Birmingham breakers. It was deemed too good to scrap and put up for sale,no idea if there is any MOT or tax on it, and i think £375 is a bit much for a car from a breakers, but it does look very clean indeed. 101k on the clock, fired up first time and seems to drive OK (yes I even took it on a short test drive!) All tyres look OK, although there seems to be a bit of a blow from the exhaust. Interior looks excellent but the headlining is slightly saggy at the back. Electric widows didn't work, but it could be a fuse or something. Bodywise, bar the odd rust bleb on an arch or two it looks great. I'd deffo smoke about in it, anyway.

Anyway, on to the pics...

These guys are selling it, www.copesofearlswood.co.uk Ask for John (he's the one with no shirt on) I suspect the £375 may be a bit flexible.

DVLA sez that the tax is about to expire, does anybody know if its possible to check for an MOT online?

Only if you've got the V5 or old MOT cert I think. Surprised there isn't more interest in this. I prefer the fastback.

So do I! The dealer sticker in the rear window is for one in nearby uber-posh Knowle, so I can visualise an old giffer polishing this outside his 6 bed detatched home on some leafy up market street.

Shoorley if he owned a 6 bed detached he would have bought something posher than a base model 820 !

Ahh, but he bought it new, as a retirement present to himself!

His Pension adviser retired to Spain a few years ago unfortunately.

I need a new hatchback for my fastback - if it gets broke, let me know!

That looks a pleasing old bus; sadly* my Rover needs are currently met.

Hang on though, I see it's got a towbar, too: come on people - GR9 for picking up from the scrappy, driving over to Norfolk to fetch Wuvvum's towing dolly, then back over to Chester to drop it off at Cavcraft HQ :) Home in time for tea and stickies. That'd be a grand day out :D

Gordon Bennet :( Just my luck to have 2 (Well, 4 now) Rover 800s come up for sale just as I'm saving up but still have no space, bah! :|

That's got to be a pretty early one too on a K plate

I'm afraid i'm out of the area for a while as I live in Stoke- the last time I visited this yard was about 2 years ago, and I doubt it will still be there next time I visit! I'f it doesn't sell it will be broken, so it may be worth giving the yard a call with your requirements.

Having made the effort to see this saved I have to say I prefer the V6 saloon thats up for sale on the forum right now. Lower mileage, leather and actually on the road ready to drive away! I do prefer the fastbacks though....

"You'll only buy this if you're a mentalist".

He's right, y'know.

If that was being offered by my local scrapyard (Kirby's, south Essex's home of interesting scrap cars), it would be sitting pretty in my courtyard as I type - I really like Fastbacks :)

Do you think anybody will actually spend £375 to buy a base model rover 820 out of a scrapyard? Especially when there was a legal (ish?) one for sale on here recently for £300,did anybody buy that?

Thats the reason cars like this disappear always has been and always will be.

You are Felly Magic and I claim my £5

(Prolly right though)

I think fiatdaft is trying to put potential buyers off so he can snaffle it himself for his own Rover 800/Sterling collection.

Sadly that's spot on. Hopefully someone will take it on, but they're not desperately popular unfortunately. It's good to see stuff like this being posted for sale though, without people spotting tat like this it'd disappear even quicker.
