Shite Postcards

It was much safer back then -  a policeman is making pedestrians go and sit on the wall until they learn to cross the road properly.   Everything else just gets stuck behind a bus.

The days when CXs and Landcrabs were everyday street furniture and 2dr Mk1 Escorts weren't worth ludicrous amounts of money:

Is that a DAF panel van on the last card? I remember the cars being sold here but don't recall any vans.

Posted

Yes, DAF 33 van in one of its two (or maybe three) colours - all the ones I have seen were that dark blue.   My school chum's old man had one - we used to bounce around in the back of it on Rabbit Club outings (don't ask - its nothing to do with the Playboy Club!)

We're not doing pics here. We're doing shite postcards.

And I love those NTSC ones from some godforsaken shitholes you'd never want to end up in.

How did anyone know what to do in Morecambe that road has no islands, bollards, white lines, hatched areas, speed bumps, etc.

Devils Advocate mode on

I don't think they did know what to do - pedestrian fatalities in 1960 = approx 2,750; pedestrian fatalities in 2014 = approx 450 (source Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation 'Trends In Road Safety a British Success Story')

Suitably shite (and suitably local) movie running at the Cinerama, there....

And a red Triumph Herald in the car park...

Obviously Zastava had a bit of a market share in Sombor, formerly Austria, then Yugoslavia, nowadays Serbia:

Good question.  The shadow across the bonnet does cause a bit of visual confusion.  Initially, I thought VW K70 but the gutter is different. Then the bonnet opening gap at the side made me wonder about DAF66   .......but the leading edge and other details don't fit. It has stumped me for the moment. I hope someone identifies it so that I can sleep tonight  :-D .

The shadow got me too, now it's been pointed out it's clearly a DAF.

Time for some new glasses methinks

When I was a library volunteer at Beaulieu we used to get sent stuff like the card above asking what the car was.    More than once I was tempted to write back..."I give up.  What is it?"

Hmmm...not sure which I would rather not do.   Fording a '57 Fairlane or back-flipping into a puddle....

Another local town, this must have been taken just post war as Mortain was absolutely levelled in the war.

I've worked a lot in this area and despite the buildings ancient appearance they're constructed in post and beam concrete with just a

posh stone cladding to make them look pre war. Bloody PTA to run cables through.
