Junkman
Today, we set off from Cabourg, which is full of happy campers (now there is a contradiction in terms). If this is worth photographing for a postcard from Cagnes-sur-Mer, I don't really want to know what a dismal shithole it must be. Well, it's grim. Junkman
Calais. This metropolis, ready to step up in the World, sure does warrant it's own shite postcard post. Chemin de fer a vapeur et Opel Olympia decapotable des boches: From a happier time, when engineers tried their hardest to to come up with ever more useless means of transport, which were carefully designed to use as much petrol as humanly possible. Case in point: Typ 34. Mini and R16 owners are doing it RONG. Avenger owner also fails to improve® the climate. All others show how it's done. P5 Taunus is wearing its spare P6 style, some Beatniks are set to illuminate that Continent by night with P100s: Eggsort makes Jaaaag look dated. Hovercraft both of them. One is burning petrol with gay abandon for not much reward, the other is an aeroplane: The kind of holidaymakers I'll never understand. If I'd utilise all the shit they carry, I'd return more stressed out then when I set out. Woefully inadequate boot requires tinned beans carried on roofrack and back up supplies van. Tinned beans nom nomed before returning home. One was made by a renown Aircraft company, the other one can fly: Danke for buying German. Now ve vant your entire car industry. Someone falsifying adulteries: A tractor engined sports car. Further down the street, Monsieur Hulot walks past a Ford. A Sunbeam Rapist leading two rainy day coloured Error 404s. Dub outwindowing even Traction Familiales: You could buy a Renner before you set off for Blighty. He pulled. Junkman
Meharishite and Ranchoshite in Corsica. In Cambrai, an Error 404 driver deems his headlights inadequate. chaseracer
Blimey. I never knew a Frégate break was even a thing. And the Simca in the background; is that the same one as in the previous postcard? Is it the photographer's? Has it done a Gallic FTP...? A red roadster I fail to identify: Something appears to be free of charge in Cancale. I bet it's some animal on the red list. For some reason when I looked properly at that roadster and realised it wasn't a Lancia, I thought Siata or possibly OSI, neither of which I have any real knowledge of. Junkman
Cannes. A suitable setting for my car: Some posh chod (and a 190SL): A '57 De Soto Diplomat, which is one of those weird Mopar cut and paste jobs for export (in reality a '57 Plymouth with a De Soto front clip): '66 Impala and '63 Studebaker Lark floppytops: Another '57 De Soto Diplomat, mid Fifties Roadmaster ragtop and something proper vintage: An unsafe car behind a safe one: The poshness is an overwhelming one: Top class Archishite: Holy maccaroni, a Gullwing! hennabm, RayMK and mercrocker

barrett
This is such a great thread, but it moves too fast for me to keep up. It raises some serious question though, like why were there so many Studebakers in Germany? And why are there so many Vedette coupes in postcards? Aren't they supposed to be rare? By the way, the red roadster is nothing more exotic than a 101-series Giulia/Giulietta mercrocker and Junkman

Junkman
There are more questions. - Why are there so many DSes and so few R16s despite the latter outsold the former? - Sames goes for the 2CV vs. R4. - Why are there so few R6es?
Junkman
US servicemen on duty in BRD/West Germany? Nah. I guess it has more to do with the Mercedes - Studebaker partnership in the early Fifties. The GIs didn't drive disproportionately many Studebakers. mercrocker

barrett
I'd say even fewer than 34: it's a second series car with the revised headlamp design. I reckon maybe 10 at most had that coachwork.
