A mates Scrapyard in 2001

I'd like one... Does anyone on here own one? Or know of any rotting away. I'm quite literally not scared of rust. (or too stupid to say NO!) I was driving the Polonez today and an abstract thought popped into my head, why do I need the XR3 and the Monza and the Samba now I have this. So I guess if thats my thinking maybe one of them could make way for something... Dacia Dusterish?

When I was about 13 I took my Mum's camera up the abbotoir where my mate kept all the scrapyard runners, and photographed them all. And on finding out me Mum got a bit angry. And the film has never turned up. But on it war a picture of his Duster Van and I think his Yak Yeoman and some others I'd LOVE to see. Also his bro kept a red Duster Cabrio in a quiet corner of the yard for years. I remember trying to unscrew the Dacia badge but failed

The last and only Dacia Denem I saw was briefly in front of this wall of squashed cars. I've trawled through my phots of the yard but must not have had my camera that day This pic was taken in 2001

A car storage company (Ambrosetti UK, IIRC) not far from where I grew up used to have a yard containing a handful of unregistered Dusters opposite Richborough Power Station. They had been standing in the open air waiting to be sold for at least 18 months when I chanced upon them in 1992, so they were in a pretty bad way i.e. suede-like paintwork, dead-flat tyres, algae growth, torn hoods, etc. I wonder what happened to them?

Top right corner of Rover P6 pic in white. Looks like the Denem I was on bout but has Volvo 340ish wheels. Looks like the Denem tho!

Yea its sad to see. Its sad to see it now empty. Environment agency for ya. And its bad at the new place. Full of bloody 'new' scrap cars!

That's true Peter! When I think of all the cars I scrapped in the 70s... 80s... 90s... including 2 Polonezes, 125p estate, Mk1 Granada... no, I daren't go on.

Back in the days before ELV regs and so on it was the law for every old-style scrapyard to hold at least one Rover P6.

We used to thrash the white XR2 and XT Turbo about. And the Volvo 240 Estate in white I bought at 15 and me mum went mad cos it was 'too big' so did a straight swap for a Charade Turbo on an E plate with a neighbor and he drove the Volvo straight up the scrapyard!

And I tried to buy that Polonez too but they just laughed at me!

They've an aerial view of the yard in the 80s. I'l try copy it somehow!

I love old scrapyard pics,but can anybody explain the logic about why the cars where all left fucked like that? I mean loads of useful parts would be trashed.
