Well due to the purchase of a new (old) car this has been made redundant. It's taking up valuable space in my garage so it has to go!

It's tax exempt and MOT'd until September 13th 2012. Just one local owner from new before me, I bought it from his garage who were selling it on his behalf. There isn't really any history with the car, but I've got the V5 in my name. I was using this car as my daily from September until a couple of weeks ago, and I can say it has been 100% reliable. I've been on some quite long trips in it and it's never let me down.

Good points:

Long MOT.

One previous owner.

NEVER been welded. It's still on its original sills, which is unheard of for one of these. This is due to the last owner putting yearly applications of old engine oil all over the underside.

Loads of fantastic 'old giffer' stickers, including "Vehicle Watch" and "Civil Service Motoring Association".

Runs and drives very well. Engine uses minimal oil and clutch, gearbox etc, all spot on.

Hydrolastic appears ok with no obvious problems. The front to back pipe was replaced for the last MOT.

Original beige paintwork!

Tidy condition overall

Very good condition interior, with original carpets still intact (bit of wear on the drivers side). The seats had covers on from new until I got it.

Seatbelts front and rear.

Bad points:

The heater only blows out cold air, I think the valve has failed.

The courtesy light doesn't work.

The odometer works when it feels like it.

The radio is stuck on Radio 4!

A bit of clicking from the CV joints on full lock, but it hasn't got any worse since I've had it.

Various areas of body rust, the worst bit being the front valance which is quite corroded at each end, having said that it's not structural and not very noticeable. The rear wheel arches are corroded and there is a small amount of bubbling on the door bottoms. Some filler around the top of the headlights.

The windscreen leaks, badly, in heavy rain. Could probably be made a lot better with a bit of sealant.

One or two areas that have been touched in with an aerosol, but it's to be expected for 45 years old.

Slight blow from the manifold to downpipe joint.

Rear bumper was damaged after the original owner reversed into a lamp post.

I'm after £850, and the car is located in Southend, Essex SS3.

Superb. It wouldn't be that big a task to put this right - the 1100 club sell new wings for about £35 each, the lower front apron is a seperate panel and the rear arches would be trimmed back and tidied.

I restored a 1966 D Morris about 6 years ago - they've always been a favourite of mine. They're so neat, so cleverly designed and they drive so well. Forget Minis, these were BMC's finest hour.

Oh and Shirley the radio being stuck in Radio 4 is a good point rather than a bad...LW R4 ...Test Match Special is the only thing you should be allowed to listen to in a beige 1100!

Isn't it shit being skint? I'd love that car, and as the Rev quite rightly said it's not a big deal to do the work and they are BMC's finest hour.

They're also so much easier to work on than a Mini. The Hydrolastic is piss easy to work on - big unions for the displacers and dropping the rear subframe to change the pipes is simple - whilst the Mini subframe bolts into rusty captive nuts in the sills, the 1100 ones are accessed from under the rear seat base and screw through the shell directly into the frame rubber mounts.

It's funny - my Old Man bought an engine and gearbox from one just like this from Cross Keys Breakers in Zummerzet in the mid seventies - for £12 removed........they removed it there and then with a gas axe through the exhaust and driveshafts, sparks everywhere. It went into a 1968 1100 2 door that had eaten it's own idler gear. The beige donor was very tidy and had red seats iirc but they were worth fuck all and probably had the usual heelboard rot. Such a shame there are so few left now.

Liking that a lot - what a top find it was for you in the first place. CSMA stickers are for winnarz... Hope it finds a good home.

Thats ace and a bargain for such a solid unmessed with example. They make ace useable classics as they're fast enough to keep up with traffic without being too dear at the pumps. I'm out as we're happy with ours and don't have room for another :D

Yes, but yours is the Mark 3 - formica dash and a bit of bent wire to hold the bonnet open. It's not the pure Mark 1 - self locking bonnet stay! Strip speedo! Two piston calipers! Midget tail lights! :D

I've got the self locking bonnet stays, I'm guessing now that Longbridge didn't put them there

One of my biggest regrets is selling my blue D plate Austin 1100 :( .

One of the most enjoyable cars I have ever driven!!. Hope it goes to a good home.

Right, I've still got this sitting here, and has had next to no interest, surprisingly.

Price drop £750. Don't really want to put it on Ebay, but that will have to be a last resort.

Bargain, I hope it goes to a good home.

Hows the Atlantic going AD? It's one of my favourate cars that I've seen on this forum :D

Seems like value. Not tried getting it into at least one of the weekly classic rags? It's the sort of car I imagine that non-internet folk might be interested in (yes, there are still quite a lot of them which is one reason classic mags are still generally selling in strong numbers!)
