The blooming site didn't let me pay, Dave :-( Mind you, that's a 100% discount! ALL NEW WEBSITES R SHIT.

As discussed on fb, the enormous* LobsterDiecast technical team is ON THE CASE.ll

Also, if anyone does come across any technical issues would you let me know - ideally with a picture.

Mail to david (AT) lobsterdiecast.co.uk would be massively appreciated. We reckon we fairly thoroughly tested the new site but theres bound to be a few bits to sort.

What a great thread. :) Now I know what to do with the old Burago die-cast kits I have from when I was a lad including a nice Stingray and a Gullwing SL. I stripped them down a few years back when they came out of hibernation - by this point they were insanely dusty - and gave them a good wash but I think they are due a flocking and a painting! There's also a big box of '80s chod in the loft, too.

Out of interest, is anyone into the 'American Muscle' - made by Ertl, I think? - 1/18 models here? Picked up a few a few years back and I have to say I was really very impressed.

I had a Boss Mustang in 1/18 by Ertl that was orange, wasn't a bad model by the day's standards

Look at all this lot!!! Some were only fit for the bin, and 4 of the Unos were declared scrap, and 3 of those were sold to a mate for a scrapyard diorama, the 2 red cabrios were binned, as they were mega fucked, and so were the 2 Fiat 600s. All were faulty in some shape or form, but some minor repairs have seen many as good as new*. Some real rammel in there, 2 Alfa 159 wagons, Lancia kappa coupe, Fiat Stilo estate, Fiat Doblo, Fiat Ulysee.....

. . . .  and the Plod (I think) Yaz van

I don't want to be a bubble-burster or owt, but I've just been catching up with this thread and I thought you might like to know what the writing on the van means. Luckily Russian cyrillic is very similar to Bulgarian cyrillic so I can read it fine.

In Her Majesty's right royal latin, the writing down the side is avarinaya gazovaya sluzhva, which means emergency gas service. The writing on the door says Rostov Gorgaz, referring to a construction company called Gorgaz hailing from the city of Rostov.

Hope that helps and doesn't come across as smart-arsery or something.

Ta for the translation.

Good shout Mr BcTeer! Id love to translate the boxes of my Russian model cars. I have a policy of choosing them only if they have absolutely no Western alphabet characters on them at all!

Better shots of the Italian Chod, large chunks of what I bought are going to new homes now I've fettled them. The Uno is a little corker, kept 2 for myself, one of which does need new wheels sadly as its now sitting on a set of Renner 4 van wheels that are too skinny

I remember that Martini racer from when I was a lad but the truck is a new one on me! Matchbox stuff really was ace back then. :)

Warning these next photos are of diecast filth if you love old Opels in JRG. Senator A 2.8 S made by Schucco in fancy packaging, unbelievably bought from a Plaggy Jag parts place

They all are going to be restored.

Those are the ones where restoration is in progress:

Love Spot-On.....getting em cheap is difficult though, even in bad shape as the subject matter was sometimes unique compared to Corgi/Dinky stuff.   Got some myself to restore over the winter, including a Holy Grail Bedford S tanker.   Better be careful with that one!

They aren't cheap, and they aren't cheap to restore.

For many of them, you will need parts, and that means, glass, front bumper/grille, rear bumper,

which easily amounts to £12 per car. Add this to the purchase price, and add your paint expenses,

and you easily end up in the £40-50 range for a restored one. Still a far cry from a minter, though,

which all are comfortably three digits.

My holy grail would be the Mulliner Coach, but I haven't seen even a bad one in ages.

I used to have a battered Tonibel CA ice cream van by Spot On, even they nowadays go for mental money

Posted

Mulliner coach was a master-piece.   And, come to that, the Tonibell Bedford.   At least the earlier castings don't require all those expensive chrome bumper/light mouldings.   I think the bits I bought for the Bedford came to over £20 - catwalk, landing gear etc.   I am still deliberating whether to do it in Esso livery as they ran out of our local refinery when I was a kid.  The thing with these toys of course is the constant scale which makes the commercials so expensive/appealing....
