Shite in Miniature II

Yep...box of kids toys at a steam rally (Laughton Cuckoo Fair to be precise).   Of course having found this purely by chance I had to root through the entire box which yielded a further Nada.  Nix.   Still chuffed, though.

So would I be. Holy shit.

That Lincolnshire bit is a tad disturbing.

I moved up here just before Xmas 2014 from that there London. I love living here and it was very handy for attending Shitefest at the Bubble Car Museum. Are you in the vicinity? Just noticed that you have a 16TL, friend here have a late one with about 8k on the clock, beautiful it is too. Apparently there is a chap in Spalding who is a specialist for them and has many parts etc.

But in a pretty similar way I got my Spot On Royal Rolls Royce.

Hebden Bridge Classic Car Show. It was buried in a box with all kinds of Chinese tosh.

When the vendor said ten quid, I pulled out my wallet quicker than John Wayne ever did his Colt.

Hell, I hope not!

Nah, seriously, fair play to you, but the area gives me the creeps.

Yes I think I can understand that, there are some odd people around but in the main they're very friendly. But some of their driving habits leave a lot to be desired.

I have done a little bit more in the display room and found this garage what I bought a while ago. I particularly like it as it features an Anglia as I'm rather partial to them as there is possibly the oldest real one still active residing in my garage. Have a couple of pics with resident Angleboxes.

I'd sooner be in Lincolnshire than Hebden Bridge.

I wouldn't want to hang dead over a fence in either.

You did very well there!

I cannot even remember there being any in the toy shops to leer at as a kid, even after they featured on Blue Peter.

Anyway. Shite in Miniature.

A recent rummage in the Junkdungeon unearthed a box I long since forgot I had.

It contained two RIO models (don't google that!):

36024133591_817b1e766d_b.jpg

So I thought I'll flog them on the evil bay.

However, when I checked the prices they achieve, I decided to do the opposite, as you would.

Some of them come in delightfully Seventies boxes:

Some come in simple plastic cases:

Anyway, this is the loot as of currently:

36024126121_e1419cabe4_b.jpg

Which has been complimented today by a raving bonkers contraption made by Safir:

These are the models individually.

1901 Fiat:

This bizarre thing is a 1906 Fiat Doppio Phaeton:

35989026822_5426f7ff97_b.jpg

1905 Fiat 60CV, an early people carrier:

The same car again, but in an open version:

1927 Fiat 519S Torpedo:

35765935050_0c69f7f045_b.jpg

35765934200_1a05728a65_b.jpg

It has engine detail:

35765933610_958934bb50_b.jpg

1932 Fiat 508 Balilla. Fiat launched it in anticipation of Mussolini ordering them to build a people car anyway.

35765932560_96f21bd7d1_b.jpg

36156442075_83c32492c7_b.jpg

This one has opening doors:

Look at the fine detail painting:

1932 Alfa Romeo 6C1750 Berlina:

35765927330_54dff1d04e_b.jpg

It also has engine detail:

1929 Isotta-Fraschini Tipo 8A Landolet Imperiale:

Again, with engine detail:

36117291256_d2b298c67f_b.jpg

And lastly, a 1910 Gregoire by Safir. Of what I understand, it could be the first camper van of all ever.

36117289026_37fe4981c6_b.jpg

The Thule is detachable:

Inside is a Chippendale commode:

The rear seating arrangement could be made into a double bed in the real car:

Naturally the servants were excluded from the fun, unless pretty maid:

I've got a rather sad looking Triumph TR3 triang Spot-On; it's missing its windscreen but still has its steering wheel. Rather than go through the seventh circle of hell that is selling on evil bay would anyone here want it?

With decent-quality 1:18 diecast (not resin) models now costing more than a serviceable Rover 800, my spending has been rather curtailed of late. I did treat myself to this as a late birthday present, though.

I suspect it's the last AUTOart to join my collection until a significant windfall comes my way.

I also hoovered up some beaten up Dinkyshite lately.

Blighty Dinky:

35996537862_ab0fb25b26_b.jpg

Froggy Dinky:

36031858731_9e4c501786_b.jpg

Here you can see the difference in scale:

35773346190_626627afc5_b.jpg

Whereas the French Dinkies were 1:43 pretty much from the onset, the English Dinkies were made closer

to 0 gauge, i.e. 1:48, for quite a while, so were the Corgies. This was changed later on and the R16 is closer

to 1:43

Sadly, the Fairlane's roof leans:

35773354410_d33e94b8ff_b.jpg

I hope I can rectify this during restoration without breaking the pillars.

The Dodge Royal Lancer (fnar, fnar) is fairly straight:

35773354030_6e8eff2574_b.jpg

35773353480_0569b1cd2d_b.jpg

So is the R16, which for some* reason is going to be painted white:

35773352880_5bafab4ce3_b.jpg

It's merely missing the backlight, which is available from Steve Flowers:

35773352240_1b50a9c01c_b.jpg

The Saratoga is rough, but straight:

36164562145_24bbcee732_b.jpg

35773351120_c6efee2f7c_b.jpg

Note that I already did the wheels and tyres on that one.

Isabella has a slightly bent A pillar:

36164561075_2c2145460d_b.jpg

35773350030_73ff03119b_b.jpg

1961 2CV has a stance as if five people were in it:

35773349420_4302f99951_b.jpg

36031861521_200f2b038c_b.jpg

It's not bent or anything, this is how it was delivered.

Panpan should be the easiest resto of them all:

36031860501_10a07d4f97_b.jpg

36031859651_86cb7f4b98_b.jpg

It really only needs a repaint and the glass polishing.

I find heating up the casting really helps if you need to straighten anything,

much less likely to break as it softens the metal enough to tweak the bent bits.

Posted

I don't really know.

I just use a heat gun untill it's nice and hot.

You could also put them in the oven and heat the casting that way.

Wearing gloves is a good idea too.

Awww, isn't it a little sweetie!  I bet I could make a suitable windscreen for it, I'm not short of spare clear plastic.
