Originals were also silver and used base plate from the saloon, reading SIMCA 1500 GLS

And then we have the Dinky Standard Vanguard, for @Split_Pin:

The tyres are a bit knackered and flat at the back, but the casting really is very nice indeed.

It's done well to survive with this much paint.

It's always the way - the best method to have something great show up on Tat Friday is to have a Tat Box sent earlier in the week!

Will keep this for as long as you like, man.

Thanks Tim, it looks great, happy to square that one off with you whenever.

FIGHT!

Oh wait...

That's very magnanimous of you. Rest assured it'll be going to a good home with other Bill Day models for company. I've always liked the look of those East Lancs coaches although the build quality was probably shit.

I was hoping for obscene limericks, but duly noted fellas!

Some truly unusual items cropping up from time to time - there can't be many of these in scratch-builds in circulation, can there?

So - that really is it.

I've a little bit of admin to attend to, then...

But a pleasure, as always.

Happy Friday kids - have a good 'un!

It jumped out at me because these were once so familiar yet the model is so unusual. Tayside had 2 Volvo Citybuses with these EL bodies and they were always tooling about with small independents as 2nd or 3rd hand purchases.

Thanks Tim, a smashing Tat Friday. Have a good weekend yourself.

I'm really pleased with the Vanguard, another I'd been chasing since discovering them and other early 50s cars in Popular Classics. I'm sure there in my 'British Family Cars of the Fifties' book as well.

I hope you bought that Crescent Toys 1284 Mercedes Benz 2.5 Litre

Heh, didn't even notice it!

Not really my area of interest, but looks in reasonable nick.

Some quite unusual stuff this week - will be interesting to see what returns!

Ah, now I have that one - purchased as NOS from a local newsagent's display case in 1991 (without the box, annoyingly).

IMG_20220921_113848~2.jpg

Different wheels on mine though - the earlier five-crown type.

Plus rusty axles. Mmm.

They're not common though - and who knows where mine was sourced from?

Metallic Green one wears Countryman grille, despite being the Austin Van body

Metallic Green one also has poor radio reception and no woodworm.

Does anyone know of a website that lists all the Matchbox models and the colour etc variations?

Just want to have a look at the Sierra and see how many there actually are.

I’ve got a couple of those, the axles always seem to be rusty and they are rarely found in good condition.

Well you've got Wiki but it's not always got every variation I find

https://www.cfalkensteiner.com was the best for all international variations

But site is a bit broken but you can get in sideways.  Sometimes.

But it's quite old and clumsy.  This is the page for Toyota Supra [A60]

Dinky release was the most colourful and probably rarest of the Macau production

I've owned a grey/red Sierra like the one at the top middle since the early 80s. Mine has the dished wheels like the blue and white examples either side. Does that mean mine is ul£ra r$re?

Thought not.

It’s the blue one I’m after but it’s a pig to find. Looks like USA issue though according to that site, which is probably why I’m struggling!

Search on Team Duckhams QXR, it was only ever in these sets:

- Team Matchbox TM-6 (1987)

41.webp.7442c48c9ef17c4e70170c940816f0f6.webp

- Team Convoy TC-9 (1988)

1292034024_s-l1600(3).thumb.jpg.b69d38119b1cdd2dc659e9ba92f231c7.jpg

There is a Convoy set over in Germany, but don't look at the price.

There’s a good chance I won’t be getting that one then!😁

I’ll have to be happy with this one, which is still nice.

image.thumb.jpg.a478a127a40d4a79e673605b822a013e.jpg

I’m guessing it was only this one and the plain white one that were made in uk?
Most of the others seem to have slightly later dates so must all be Thailand/Macau/China made.

That's the same as mine, although I'm pretty sure mine is Macau built.

After all the help choosing colours you all gave me I thought a quick pic to show progress was in order so here's my drying rack

IMG_6600.thumb.JPG.94c3a8aa5a73279155846e97978c981a.JPG

I have just been working on restoring a Corgi Camaro. It wasn't awful and I didn't take many before pics

IMG_6580.thumb.JPG.f8b5ed2db9891498972eb23def04aa87.JPG

No windscreen (obv) and the dash was broken with brown suede stuck to it. It was also stuck down on the floor as carpet and on the door card armrests and the centre consol. The roof was broken and Humbrol matt black was used to give a nice tide mark all round the car and also painted on the interior behind the back seat. The headlight blinds were missing and the chrome yellowed.

IMG_6601.thumb.JPG.7356c4a9e4cf22a56558d18521be1a51.JPG

Most of the black paint came off quite well using various techniques

Steve Flowers screen fits really well, shame I didn't notice the little bit of flash on the top right corner before I looked at these photos. I had filed the other corner already.

IMG_6602.thumb.JPG.1a14adfa390b5f5c2d4dbd7dc9bb8d9b.JPG

It's a bit chipped in places, but not too bad at all.

IMG_6603.thumb.JPG.456832191824230a39178554c5624405.JPG

The rear panel was black and came up pretty well, but the repro hood not a great fit.

IMG_6604.thumb.JPG.97946c47afa6cdb8317bb4cd61db200b.JPG

All the red interior came up much better than I expected, shame someone cleaned the black off the steering wheel, left it on the draining board then placed a heavy saucepan on it! It did glue back together.

Lights closed

Lights open!

IMG_6607.thumb.JPG.53ab8522cf722d3fe42b02705751f970.JPG

Looks pretty much like the real thing

IMG_6608.thumb.JPG.fab84004d9b47330175fadf71d4b529d.JPG

Very pleased to have made them.

IMG_6609.thumb.JPG.58aa5d4a14d57c5ea1384a45e5cf4e81.JPG

The dashboard got patched up with red plasticard and really looks fine behind the repro screen.

IMG_6610.thumb.JPG.2d46a6675b8d9c01c18174206e19f782.JPG

Firebird sits much higher, presumably because of Whizzwheels

IMG_6612.thumb.JPG.140b6b63cc61e60973bd172700d23a86.JPG

You can see how good the Steve Flowers windscreen is compared to the firebird original

IMG_6613.thumb.JPG.18c3d031e5a99e46a4a6b0c96e5b4539.JPG

For some reason the Camaro is on what I take to be Hunter Minilights, the 11 yr old me must have done that along with the other mods, I don't remember and don't seem to have the originals anywhere either.

IMG_6614.thumb.JPG.afe4a3b4b68f70f5d1e0fbde03a2e1c7.JPG

The same, but different!

White ones first release 1983 with Made in England on base

The silver with those graphics production transferred during 1985, so both.  If you have a Made in England silver one, then it was a 1984 until then.

From then on was Made in Macau until 1990 when the Thailand factory started production

Do actually have a Crescent Toys Mercedes Benz 2.5 Litre back here anyhow...!  😇

It lives on the back of this transporter

IMG_20230428_171225.thumb.jpg.fe8a11264ed3b4f3b90ab74ac93afb2f.jpg

Along with a Crescent Aston Martin DB3S, a Spot-on Jaguar XK SS and a Corgi Lotus Mark Eleven

No I don't know why I haven't got round to repainting them either

Tucked on the back of a transporter, they've been forgotten about.

But I am on the look-out for the Crescent D-type Jaguar to complete 'the set', if anyone has a rough one looking to pass on
