Shite in Miniature II

A shite restoration! This is one of the old plastic Triang Minix Triumph 2000s from the sixties. It originally looked like the green one, not too promising.

post-5267-0-31927200-1448712086_thumb.jpg

With the aid of a 3 quid Oxford Mk2 like the yellow one, it gained proper wheels and an interior

post-5267-0-36410900-1448712087_thumb.jpg

A bit of brass wire replaced the missing rear bumper corners, a common problem on these

And it was sprayed in my favourite colour, Ford Purple Velvet. Not authentic but I think the colour suits it.

Voila, a Mark 1 2.5 PI for my collection. I'm well chuffed with how it turned out - the bodyshell is actually really good and with a bit of detail it doesn't look out of place with modern Oxford models.

Transformation! I like those Minix things the way they are but they are pretty shite as models - look at that narrow track! I used to fanny about detailing them - painting the tyres black and so on but that's a whole new level you have there...

Posted

That's some top detailing work you have there, well done indeed.  I still have a few old Minixes but none of them will ever have that level of restoration, not while they're with me!

I had those Minix 2000s

I was at a model railway show today and one thing you dont see anymore are those fiver bags of 1:87 plastic Herpa, Wiking and Praline cars. I bought tons of them about 20 years ago and they al had great detail and were of cars that you couldnt het models of at the time. For example, e28 3 series, Opel Ascona, Volvo 264, Fiat Fiorion 127, mk2 Transit, Mitsubishi L200 Van, VW LT and so on. I can take pictures if anyone is interested.

Yes please!

In the meantime, here is my Opel corner of the railway scale collection.

Wiking Ascona B in orange to represent my full-scale one (right colour although mine was 4 door) plus two Spanish EKO models - Rekord P1 Caravan and Kadett A.

I became quite taken with the EKO range and bought lots of those, quality varies quite a bit but I think they look a bit nicer than the Minix equivalents....

Nice Opels, it's a real shame that our continental cousins use 1/87 (HO) scale and we're stuck with our own 1/76 as there's so much interesting HO stuff out there but it just looks too small next to 1/76.

I have the earlier Ascona, a green 2 door estate but I love yours ! Glad to see some love for these, they are cride next to the modern Classix or Trackside stuff but I always loved them. I'll photograph them when I am home. I also have an EKO Pegaso, basic but lovely.

Ok here goes, some of my German plastic 1:87 collection. I will post up in batches. Ill start with the moderns which have separate rubber tyres, light lenses and body trim pieces. All finely detailed and not chunky like the die cast equivalents.

These Capris have been intricately fucked about with by their previous owners. Ebay "what the fuck were they thinking" types of thing. The bespoilered one had a targa roof until I remedied it. I love them!

Junkman do you know what kind of car the American-looking thing might be or is it too small to tell?

Car based commercials. Someone scratch built the Truckman top for the Caddy and it has a Fiorino roof rack. Someone took a long time over this one.

Light commercials. All have been painted and detailed apart from the Citroen. The Transit has been converted into some sort of day van.

Strange plastic friction model of an Alfa Romeo 1300 Junior Zagato. I remember my mum buying me this in about 1983 from a Newsagents in Clarkston, Glasgow.

Christ knows how it has survived, I gave it death when I was a kid. Lovely to have now.

Loving these! I remember seeing that Zagato Alfa junior in shops and thinking that I must buy one but didn't.....I am sure Junkman will be along to confirm that the black/blue Wiking is a 1964/5 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu (or at least correct my assumption). I have one of these in cream, nice model.

Thanks Mercrocker, I always wondered what it was!

Re the Alfa, I recall choosing between that and a Fiat 127. I saw the 127 recently at a swapmeet but the guy wanted silly money for it.

Have a couple of Guisval 1:64s.

I bought the 12 at a Swapmeet in 1990 for 50p and surprisingly I bought the Seat 131 brand new in a shop in Cala'n Porter, Minorca, in August 1993.

Just received a few of these.

Corgi really went to town with some new car releases in the early 80s.

These ones are made by Monogram & came from Beatties many years ago.
