Shitefest 2012 - 14th July - PARTY TIME!

Could you please add my name to the list for this :)

Well, we are in the home straight now for SHITEFEST! Only a month to go!

And the preparations are underway.

The Shitequiz is almost complete - just the visual rounds to go, so swat up on your advertising, your years knowledge and your SHITE general knowledge. A delightful and tasteful trophy has been constructed for the unfortunate winner.

There will be a trophy for "best velour interior" (no apologies to owners of povvo spec cars that don't feature velour!)

And I think that there will be a trophy for "best" paint job. Of course the definition of "Best" is still to be decided. Gaffa tape will be included as paintwork in the judging I feel.

I think we should also have a "car of the day" trophy, voted for by YOU the participants.

So, keep fingers crossed for reasonable weather.

Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be Private Messaging all of you who have said you are coming, with location details. So, if anyone else wants to come, just let me know.

Finally - although this is "Shitefest", we have to think of it as a private party and it is NOT a commercial venture. You will not be paying an entrance fee, but a "donation" towards the cost of loo hire, food etc. Hope that is ok. Just need to make that bit clear for insurance purposes etc!!

Looking forward to seeing lots of you in Wiltshire on 14th July

As a possible back up plan, have any of you guys from the west coast got any spaces spare? I could meet up with you at Carlisle and share the fuel .....

That is certainly one of the plans at the moment....

Plan here at the moment is either heading down from Glasgow in the Senator or the Autoshite Bike 740 estate as it'll provide somewhere flat for me to sleep; PM me nearer the time as I might've worked out whats happening by then!

Can you not bring the National down? You could hire it out as a dormitory and I could leave my tent at home!

I plan to sleep in The Volvo, as it makes a GR11 mobile tent

Bacon butties all round on the Sunday morning before we head off then???????? ... and mugs of tea. Anyone got an electric urn they can bring with them?

I'm a little concerned about the tea situation, as I LITERALLY cannot function in the morning until I have a hot brew and/or shower. Obviously the latter is out of the question so I'm relying on somebody being able to supply the former unless you all want to experience 'Zombie Barrett' all day. Either that or I run a hose from an exhaust into my tent to end it all in frustration.

I've got a camping stove and more than one kettle. Just because I go camping doesn't mean I give up my dependency on tea!

Hmmm...

First, take a drinks can: by dtvacuums, on Flickr

Pierce it very close to the top, an eating fork will suffice: by dtvacuums, on Flickr

...and trim the bottom to suit... by dtvacuums, on Flickr

These things MUST be kept parallel, or the weight of the pan/kettle etc. will be askew.

Next: fuel. Alcohol based, preferably; if loved ones have recently neglected to buy you aftershave you don't use, Methylated spirits will be fine. Fuel the stove up with a decent - but not so much as to waste it - amount of fuel. by dtvacuums, on Flickr

Take a pan or other flame-proof vessel, add water to the vessel. by dtvacuums, on Flickr

Then, using a spill of paper soaked liberally in the fuel you are using... by dtvacuums, on Flickr

...or a pool of the same around the base of the stove, and light it. by dtvacuums, on Flickr

Note: a disposable gas lighter with the flame turned up will do too - just play the flame around the top of the stove until the fuel gets going.

That's seriously impressive work there! Hopefully Ian will just let me use his stove though

Don't forget I'll be in my 'luxury' motorhome at autoshite. I only have a smallish kettle around 4 mugfulls but I'm happy to make some teas. Although I can boil water in a saucepan as well I suppose.

I don't have a shower in there though. I like having flys buzzing round me

Actually I usually have a strip wash at the sink. I do keep the blinds closed though so don't panic

I've added myself on, as a defo. Will be setting off from Leeds, picking up Binhoker en route in Notts, so anyone travelling that route is welcome to Convoy it up. We'll be in my minicab spec Corolla.

I've got one of these for tea duties, although mines a cheapo version. Also got several cans of gas so will bring the lot with me.

As it's Bast'ard Day it's probably only right that I come in the R25, although the Montego could do with a good run as I've been neglecting it of late. Does anyone have a burning desire to see a crusty, beige Monty? If so I'll come in that!
