Current Nissan Micra

I gotta say, city cars are one of my least favourite things, but I'm really getting to like my courtesy car. Yes, it's ugly as fuck, but it's nowhere near as cheap and nasty as I expected.

Fucking hell fire! I can't find words.

It's probably a decent enough car at the end of the day but I suspect Nissan as a brand is losing market share these days anyway.

They are doing OK and certainly better than a few years ago, when they were still trying to sell the Almera Mk2 and Primera Mk4. They are selling better than Renault (after that firm's sales implosion) now and the Qashqai is usually in the top ten sellers.

Nissans best days were the mid 1970s when they were no1 importer and then the late 1980s after the UK Bluebird took off.

That new law (as of a few years ago) where bonnets now have to be of a certain height/roundness to help protect pedestrians on impact really has been the death of the attractive small car.

Oh my, if that doesn't feel cheap what do you drive on a daily basis??

I had one for an hour, whilst waiting for an enterprise rentavan, EVERYTHING was nasty, EVERYTHING.

I'd just left an '84 Corolla to get into it as well.

Round here (apart from one new Micra spotted last year) you'd think Nissan only made the Qashqai and the Juke.

Come to think of it - I've no idea at all what their current range includes...

Qashqai, Juke, Navara, Micra, GT-R... errr... do they still make the X-Trail?

Us northern types also get the Tiida, a frankly fearsome looking thing on huge skinny tyres.

Arnold Clark imported a ton of those Tiidas from Ireland and churned them out from the Nissan Dealer in Linwood for £9995, which is why there's gazillions of them around Paisley.

I don't think Nissan Uk recognise it as an official model.

The Tiidas are actually ok to drive. All the Arnold Clark ones were autos but they were surprisingly ok. Had a windscreen smashed in one though - took eight weeks to arrive from Japan and was £1100. Bet that might surprise a few private buyers in years to come.

We also get the Nissan Note, seen a few of those things about, I think I've also seen a few Tiidas, first saw a Tiida in Kuwait though. The K11 Micra is still very popular around here, I cant go out without seeing one around and its a mixture of pre and post facelift models.

I've driven a couple of K12s, they are pretty much ok to drive.

K'in 'ell

I notice they've done the Alfa-Romeo 156 thing an 'hidden' the rear door handle.

Wouldn't the windscreen from Renault Megane fit?

I thought that's what the Tiida/Versa is based on?

Are you 100% sure it was a Spark and not an Aveo?

Posted

Yep, defo a spark. Even the guy from the rental company aplogised when he arrived in it. Think it had done 150 miles from new. I know they are a 'cheap' car, but it really did feel very very cheap.

I had an Kalos/Aveo when they were 'launched' in the uk, well when they decided to stick Chevrolet badges on instead of Daewoo ones, and they were pretty bad, it was replaced by a Lacetti which apart from guzzling fuel like a car twice it's size wasn't too bad.

Actually, just looked and they're not that cheap, a base one is £8475, where a KA is £8795 and a Panda is £9295.
