I've taken a break from watching Thundercats to go and photograph some cars that are becoming rare and disappearing fast.

001-5.jpg

This is me standing next to a Renault 12 MK1 in 1990 in Dalkeith, Midlothian. Yes, my parents thought I was strange. They just don't understand!

002-6.jpg

A much worse condition Renault 12 MK2 photographed in linlithgow, 1990.

The plate is now worn by an Volvo V70 in Elie, Fife.

003-5.jpg

A kit car thing (anyone know what it is - Clan??) that was always parked outside our holiday house in Belford, Northumberland, 1990.

004-6.jpg

My parent's neighbour had a pal that was into some really shoddy cars in 1990. Austin 1300 GT and Mini Marcos. I've got a pic of the latter but its too dark and shit to scan.

006-6.jpg

My mum sitting behind the whlle of her future father-in-law's car in about 1969. She didnt pass her test until 1983!

007-6.jpg

My Dad's Cortina L in 1983 near Carnoustie with my cousin standing beside it.

008-5.jpg

My dad owned this Cavalier GL in 1988.

010-9.jpg

Replaced it with this 240GL which I liked much better.

009-7.jpg

My mum's base model metro after a coal lorry reversed into it in about 1988. We got it fixed but chopped it in for a 5-door G reg City model which was probably the worst car my parents owned.

011-6.jpg

My Uncle Robert's Citroen GS, circa 1985

012-6.jpg

He replaced it with this brand new Lada in 1986. I love the wheel trims!

013-4.jpg

I took a break from watching "Around the World in 80 Days - the Adventures of Willy Fogg" as I just had to photograph this dodgy old Dolomite in 1990.

016-5.jpg

My Unncle Sam lives in Canada and when he bought this new Chevy Lumina in 1992 he sent me a picture of it along with some old license-plates, whcih I still have. I drove this in 1999 when we all went to visit them. It had a 301 V6 engine.

I wish I'd had the foresight to nick my parents' camera and take pictures of all the old motors I was spotting when I was 10. I just ticked them off in my Eye Spy book instead.

Nice memories, Ian. My Grampa had a Renault 12, JSM299P, in the late eighties. Considering one of his favourite sweary-sayings was "Jesus-Suffering-Christ!" (apologies to those who dislike blasphemy), this R12 and its number plate would have been far more apt!

I wonder if he was swearing at his old Renault!

JSC had an elderly owner and had one of those wooden/bead supports on the drivers seat. I seem to recall it had an actual frame as well? It was spectacularly fucked, but its nice to see its registration live n every time I visit the East Neuk!

I remember how delighted I was to find a mint scale model of a Renault 12 in the bargain bucket at a swapmeet the same year for 50p - no-one else wanted it!

It had a 301 V6 engine.

That'll be a 3.1! I think if my 91 Lumina had a 301 in it (five litres, near enough) I would have noticed! Excellent work though Iain, and how cool is it to have an Uncle Sam on the far side???????

Ah, I must have mis-read his writing on the back of the card lol, it was quite faded! I've never got the hand of the Cubic Inch designation

I intend to visit them with my wife in the future, thankfully they come back to Scotland every 2 years so I still get to see them :D I loved Canada and really hope to be able to go back again some day!

I must dig out the pics I took of some chod there in 1999 on my visit. I remember there being a lot of Plymouth Reliants with frilly sills though!

You soon pick it up... well I did, but then it's something I was interested enough in. It's only like miles/kilometres. What part of Canada? My Lumina came from Kincardine, Ontario originally.

My Uncle lives in a little Town in New Brunswick called Hampton, near Saint John.

I remember it being so clean, tidy and laid back!

That's been my impression of many of the places we've visited over there (south of the border; we haven't touched Canada yet). The smaller towns are particularly good at keeping clean, it seems. Uncle Sam's place looks lovely!

I was amazed at the standard of living over there.

He had a back yard that was several acres, but that was 'normal' over there. It was a nice place and had a kind of 'second' home in the basement where it was warmer in the winter months.
