Swedish car safety survey website....

Found this while doing my hourly trawl of the VOC website. (I really need to get out more  )

It's pretty interesting, It compares the EURO N-CAP rating of individual cars with real life experience, there is quite a difference on some of them!

The Volvo 240 is classed as "Above average", which is pretty good as the info was compiled in 2009!

AVOID - less safe than the average car

BMW 5-Serie 88-96

I know, I've seen Ronin! Interesting to note that no Saabs appear on that list, and only one Volvo, the 3 series. Where was this survey from again?

I'd heard from somehwere that the car companies have long been making NCAP safe cars that actually aren't particularly good in non-laboritory situations... I see the 205, Punto, old shape Megane and one of the Clios all received 4 stars from N-CAP but manage to scrap in as below average safety. Not particularly good reading for N-CAP there.

Saabs are further down. They are large cars. Interesting that the c900 gets an average rating considering it has no real active safety measures e.g. EBC, Air BAgs etc..

I thought as much, thanks Moog! I didn't read the link, you see, only the below-average list posted by Peter.

I'll rephrase that.... the "Avoid" list. Better? Apogolies....

I had no idea that the 'TV2-type' Volvo 70 Series has a four star Euro-NCAP rating :D

I was quite chuffed when I saw that.

My old 900 does pretty well considering it's a 20 year old example of a 30 year old model which itself was based on a 40 year old car. 8)

They are quite tough these old cars, and importantly from a human injury point of view you sit a long way back from the front of the car compared to most moderns. I've always thought that the simple fact that the crash happens further away in a big car is worth something.
