True Renaultshite--but is it worth anything

Been offered this 1988 Renault 25 GTX 2.2....Its got 250k on it, 9 months MOT and 3 months tax, but realistically is it worth anything considering it needs a full respray...I have been looking for a good Phase 1 for some time(but this isnt good)

The cost to get it home is more than its worth, never mind buying the blasted thing.

It depends if it's just flagrant miss use of pound shop rattle cans or if it's actually rotten. To get to 250k it must be doing something right!

Is it miles away from you?

Lets just say, you are probably nearer.

Here is the sellers description

Renault 25 gtx. It is the rare 1988 model that has the 2.2 litre engine and not the 2litre. It's silver and has 252,000 on the clock. He used it daily and it runs like a watch"(was his fathers who died recently)". It has just had new clutch fitted and has done approx 200 miles since. The bodywork does need a little attention and probably a respray. I have got a file to say what he has done to it. I have got a file that he started keeping from 05 on all the work that he has done to it.The list is endless and have all the receipts. It has 9 months mot and 3 months tax. There is also a small leak which shows in the front footwell. I think it is the windscreen rubber. I have driven it and found it a very comfortable car. My father had owned the car since 1996. Reasonable offers please. I am working away from home from tomorrow (less than a fortnight i hope). My wife will check my emails for me and will keep me informed.

Roll in it for nine months and break it - or if you like it keep it and do it up - either way, if it is your side of the bog, go for it.

What's it worth - not much more than scrap - £300 or so! At that price you can't go wrong.

You should definitely buy it. For £250 what could go wrong?

If it's in Glasgow or surrounding area's Im sure I could help with delivering you to said shite.

While I don't think that this one would be worth restoring, unless all that rust that has been sprayed over is just on the surface rather than coming through from the inside, it would certainly make a handy run around for as long as it is cheap to MOT and could then be used as a donor car for any parts needed when you find a nice one. The manual box is a bonus shirley.

It's never going to be worth a great deal so you might as well buy it because you want it, assuming you can afford to of course. Seeing as you'd possibly never make any money on it it's definately a heart rather than head decision and for that reason I think you should take it on.

Wrong side of the bog---Its somewhere in the Coltswolds and I'm in Ireland, and thats the dilema---fuck it,,,anybody want the number?

I don't want to be a fellysmartarse, but that's just fifty quid's worth of rubbish. It's got nothing really going for it. Considering a really clean one is worth a cup of cold piss, why entertain scrap? They were a nice old bus, but I'd keep looking.

thats why I'm passing on it

that's unfair - a quick run to Buckland's would see £180-200 over the bridge! In which case, it's worth more than £50! Not much more granted - and not worth a ferry trip for (even if you could store it at mine for a few weeks!).

It's a heart over head decision!

That is bloody miles away. You could of course drag a friend/family over to the Cotswolds on false pretenses of a nice little holiday then take them to the car and go "TADA!!" before subjecting them to a 2 day horror journey back home.

I know less than fuck all about big renners, the biggest one I ever had was a Laguna Mk1. But if its worth it for parts for you get someone (or many someones) to drive it relay style to Fleetwood, then overnight ferry it to Larne and drive it home.

Is it rare? Is it worth it for bits?

If you're going to the Cotswolds you might as well check this out too....

R20TS with T&T

Probably a series 2 with the not-so-nice dash, and might have a bit of rust by the sounds - but still worth a look?

EDIT - might still just be a Series 1 at W-reg. Would be good.

Given the distance and cost implications I can understand your reluctance. The paint looks freakin Gr19 though :)

As always, it depends what you want from a car. As something to float about in until the next MoT then it's a winner. I'm tempted myself just for the sole reason of annoying the local curtain twitchers with the shoddy bodywork!

Sorry------different ad,,,I'm not sure where in the UK it is,but I have made my excuses and left the building

Hi,

the GTX Phase 1 has the Un1 Gearbox which is always worth 250 Pounds as people use it in Kit cars and even VW Transporter t2 TDI conversions.

You can still weigh in the rest. It doesn't really look like it is worth saving.

That looks utterly horrid and is surely only worth what it would fetch over the bridge.

So therefore in true Autoshite style someone should buy it and spend £££ getting it back to semi reasonablness ...
