I'm gonna print that picture with the record shop and the s1 rs turbo out tomorrow on works printer at about 10 foot wide and paste it on my living room wall to further alienate any women I manage to fetch home. Shabba!

When looking at these does anybody else think "I know where that is" then get straight on google maps.

2nd from last is Smithdown rd by Claremont rd.

Michael t took some photos down there on his spotting thread.

Bit slow posting this.

Referring to the bus stop photo from previous batch.

It looks remarkably the same today apart from the lack of Capri II content.

If you were a RETRORIDER you'd be printing the pic of the 240k Skyline a couple of pics above it.

If you go up Smithdown towards town a lot of the houses have been pulled down with a lot more scheduled to go.

The hospital is now an Asda. (I don't know if it would have been when the photo was taken)

I have to admit that the first picture sums up managed decline in a nutshell.

What's the light blue car in the second pic?

I wonder how long Hinge and Brackets 100a lasted?

Looks like Alex of Alex Burger Bar has been caught short by the back door.

That first photo in Allerton rd had me laughing like a horse. A Conservative shop in Liverpool. No, there's just something about the old dear with her hat and eye patch.

Here's some more. There's a few "then and now" pics in there that I should imagine will only be of interest to locals and I'm sorry for any reposts!

I'm lost for words, almost. It's the little details I love, like the NEMS van outside the lido. Would that be Brian Epsteins NEMS? Another thing that grabs me is that a entire generation of post war town planners/architects should be held accountable for some of the atrocities they committed to our great cities, pretty much like the Nazis at Nuremberg. Prison, and no pensions, for the outrageous destruction of our heritage and architecture.

These are great, Mr Claim, you have surpassed yourself.

I'm just wondering do you live local to Allerton?

Apart from the names on the shops Allerton rd has hardly changed.

I'm afraid I don't live in Allerton but I do live in Merseyside and have an interest in local history.

After going through the then and now pics I've realised that the lump of cast iron that I shattered the sump of my Mk4 Golf on earlier in the year is probably one of the last remaining remnants of Liverpool's Overhead Railway! Can't say I feel lucky though.

I'll post some more pics soon but I thought I might like to take five minutes out for a quick rant that's probably more relevant on here than in the grumpy thread.

Town planners and safety lobbys have achieved nothing more than destroy the neighbourhoods and areas of our cities. Looking at these then and now pics I see areas blighted by poverty caused by needless pedestrianisation, parking restrictions, one way streets and unnecessary barriers and street furniture that have done nothing whatsoever to improve an area, reduce accidents or ease congestion. We as motorists have endured short-sighted strategy from the people we elect in our town halls.

We need to reclaim the streets for businesses again.
