Bizarre ventilation issue- any ideas?

I am really baffled by this. In the summer, I had an issue with reduced airflow on longish trips (after about 2 hours of correct operation, the fan would keep working and making air noise as normal, but very little would come out of the vents). The consensus was in agreement with what that I had thought- something was wrong with the pollen filter. When I took the car to the garage for them to do some odd jobs, I had the pollen filter changed. The problem hasn't gone away (90% of my driving is within 60 miles from home, so it's not long enough for it to manifest itself in any meaningful way), so does anyone have any suggestions apart from hammering a smaller climate control on top of the current system?

Yes coerce the garage into fixing the bits that were nothing to do with your airflow issues.

Sorry, no idea

Can you move the directional thing (feet, windscreen etc) around okay?

Yes. Air coming out of the correct vent, but very little of it....The temperature is correct, too.

The only other issue it causes is that it seems to prevent you from choosing to recycle the air in the cabin...although I have just noticed that and haven't tried all possible combinations.

Open a window? :D

The flap in the climate control unit has stopped working meaning that it isn't directing the inflow correctly would be my guess.

It may have become unlodged inside due to a bump or something.

That sounds possible...I'll have a butchers at the online manual to see whether there's any info on the climate system and/or locating the flap.

As for keeping the windows open, it was already way too "fresh" today (I normally only have a t-shirt/polo on when driving).

It'll probably be in some horrendous area you need to remove the dash to get to.

very likely... Probably also the stuff to the front of the bulkhead, which will in turn upset the LPG kit and end up fucking the entire car up. :x

If some air still comes out I'd say it isn't broken enough to worry about. Have a mince pie instead

What about considering that it is indeed Autoshite, bits sometimes fuck up. Live with it.

Is the ventilation vacuum controlled or cable controlled? Either way I think the fresh/recirculate flap has become detached from the controls somehow.

you don't say what car it is

on most cars you can remove the pollen filter and then see the recirculating flap below it

1. remove pollen filter

2. observe flap

3. get assistant to hit button

on my 607 the ventilation system didn't work when I got it. There is a collection of cogs that drive the various flaps in a synchronised way

some of the cogs only have teeth half way round as the flaps only move 180 degrees or something

sometimes the climate computer would drive the motor too far so that one of the cogs went past it's last tooth. this would result on horrible grinding noises and messed up air flow. the flaps would loose sync and hit each other

in the end I had to add a bracket to the motor so that it couldn't go that far and no problem since

it wasn't that hard to get to once the glove box and some trim was removed

Exactly, Its a 13 year old Ford, it worked for 2 hours, what more do you want?

I can live with it, but I'd rather sort it if it's not massively complicated/expensive thing.

It'll be the Scorpio.

Yes, unfortunately I don't have the space for any 'toys' so I have to make do with one car.

Have you considered that it could be father christmas stuck in there, trying to deliver you some interesting goodies ? (toys)
