A Caravan Question

Will a weighbridge accept a scrap caravan? If so how much will they pay?

Posted

No, they won't. Too much interior shite and wood in most of em. If you pull all the alloy off and weigh that in you get about £40 for several hours hard work, the chassis are typically about a tenner in light iron. Take the rest to the tip one bootful at a time.

Basically, it isn't worth it.

*And don't forget to sell the interior to the owner of the first ex-ambulance Bedford CF you see that's not been converted to a camper van.

How bad is this caravan?

slap it on ebay for 99p, most shagged-out caravans sell to sherpa minibus owners, to make a camper. If it doesnt sell; offer it on freecycle, as the price of alli is very low since the announcement of alcan shutting down, you would be lucky to get 30 quid for the alli, and it will take a full day to remove it

And sont forget the ally body panels have that lovely expanding foam type stuff which is a bastard to get off on the inside as insulation.

eBay it, someone will have it as a site van or the innards for a sherpa camper conversion.

The Truma heater stuff sells quite well on ebay if you can be arsed taking it out.

can't he just fit a hitch to the morgan where you would normally expect a towball?

so how come according to today's newspaper the scrappy gave a crook £2 scrap value for a stolen wheelchair?

I needed a big lockable trailer for car-booting, and found exactly what I needed in a 16ft caravan on ebay, with most of the interior stripped out. Twenty-one quid. Sorted. Looked a treat behind my 740 estate too! So yeah, there is a market for old caravans, although it's a bit specialised. As suggested, plenty of people like to strip out the fittings for use in some old van (check out the camper section on ebay for TurboDailies converted to raceday vans!).

I had a similar conversation about my old caravan when I got a new one. I stuck it on the Bay with a start price of £100, which I'd have been more than happy with, to see what would happen and it ended up fetching £555!
