It was me, I bought it, there I've said it, I only wish my old gt had come up for sale first.

Alas I have paid good money for the stinky little shitbox now, so I shall run it until it breaks.

This was my old gt that came up for sale 2 days after I bought the dogshit below...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1992-CITROEN-AX-GT-BLACK-/260899276192?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3cbecf05a0

Anyway, this rather sorry looking thing was bought as a stop gap, the Delica was costing far to much to fuel up for the week, and I didn't want to retax and re mot the xantia for only a month or so's use.

I blame the AXOC for this,it was posted in the ebay section and I noticed it was local... the rest is as they say, disappointing.

Those are saxo morettes unfortunately, they do fit ok with the rather industrial brackets they came with, but the aim was bloody dreadful.

The saxo bodykit isn't fitted too badly if I'm honest (tigerseal is creeping in places), the front bumper is shagged though!

If anyone knows of a blue ax bootlid, please let me know!

So far I've fixed the leaking washer pipes, refitted some proper speakers to the rear 3/4 panels (the others were 7" and rubbed on the seatbelts) I've also rewired the stereo and check that the sub and amp work, they do so they are going to be pulled and sold.

The other thing I did was to tidy the front end up a bit, I used some standard headlamps and a mk1 grille, I much prefer this look.

All told it doesn't drive too badly, and its very economical, 6 weeks of using this will have paid for it in fuel savings :) oh.. it was £250 with T&T until feb.

Current plans are a new driveshaft and a quieter exhaust.

Oh and as an aside, I had the no. plate valued, it came back as £1500, so I've floated that away on ebay, see if any little fishies take the line :)

Thats the first time i've ever seen an Ax made to look like a Spaxo :|

Having done a few mongish things throughout my life, I have never attempted to make a Sierra look like a Mongdeo, or turn a Carlton into a Omega.....

It looks loads better with the Ax lamps/indicators & grill than with the Morettes

That'd be too easy. You only require a few badges to do it.

How is the AXOC these days since the cars are getting pretty rare? Still the best single mark forum I've been apart of

Posted

Not as busy as it once was, and now the parts are getting rarer, there are more people on there trying their arm for high priced parts.

That said I ebay'd a GT carburettor and got £50 for it!

Whatever happened to your (red?) one? Still in that car park in Plymouth? :D

I'm equally as baffled as I am impressed by the effort someone has gone to grafting saxo kit onto an AX. You can buy a perfectly good saxo vtr/s for about 500 quid. The ax, pre abuse was probably worth more? It does look alright though, even pre "morrette removal"

The arches don't look as ill fitting as I'd expect, and neither do the bumpers. Has the PO got lucky, or used skill? or are the pictures flattering? Are the doors and stuff the same length?

That said, I did put saxo doors, seats and dash in my 106. But that was because it was cheaper than buying 106 stuff, and it was easily available (Bloke I know runs a french car breakers and I just drove in and swapped the lot, and paid about £70)

Posted

He got lucky, the arches and skirts look pretty good, the pictures are writing a lot of cheques on the bumpers, that just can't be cashed.

However, it meant that it got floated as an "unfinished project" so the price was low.

It's got saxo westcoast suspension all round, but I've a set of vts callipers and discs to drop on it at some point.

All this talk of AXSAXO106s reminds me that I've still got a 40k VTR engine in my nans shed I really aught to shift, it's laid on it's side and steadily "preserving" the floor leaking oil out of the filler cap.

Looking at the back bumper, someone's done a stack of work to make the recess, How has he done it?

That got donated to the local tinkers very soon after. I have a picture somewhere (60x60 pixels VGA OMG THAT FONE HAZ A CAMARA IN IT!!11! early 2000's style) of it making the final journey.

In retrospect I should have just bought a GT rather than spend hundred turning a povo spec one into a GT, but hey-ho all good fun

Posted

Yeah the rear bumper wins on the 3 foot rule, it's the ax recess cut into the top of the saxo bumper, however the gaps have been filled with silicone or tigerseal or summat.

Posted

Ah, fair doos.

You old AX looks a goodun. I'd sworn off french stuff for good, but it's a good job I'm flat broke or I'd be seriously considering a cheeky bid on it. They are mega fun, but VTS 125bhp ish power is about the best you can get without spending mega money, and even then a pair of cams and a map won't really set the world alight for the £600 they would cost. That said, I bet an AX GT weighs a fair bit less than even a 106 Rallye?

Yeah that black gt was pretty solid as I recall, the paint was a bit crap on it though.

The 4 stud stuff came from a knackered ax gti, and it had new shocks on too, depends what they've done taking the interior out I guess, I don't think it's been on the road since I sold it what, 4 years ago?

I have to say that them bumpers look very good to me.

Flame away!

I have to agree Prod, that works surprisingly well. But not well enough that I would. It has something of the Fiesta Si about it, a fairly angular little car fitted with rounded bumpers.

+1. I really want to hate that bodykit cobbled onto an AX, but I just can't quite do it! Spot on changing the chavvy headlights though. It just needs a set of clear rear light lenses to finish the look now...

Nice that and millions times better without those silly lights!

If someone had told me they were gunna do that to an AX I would have banded them a moron. However that looks pretty good!

You are quite right as it turns out, he was a moron.

I was heading to work last week when the knackered drive shaft seemed to become a lot more vocal than it had been, I cover 30 miles a day in this shit heap, so I was more than a little concerned to find this:

This is the driver's side strut top mount, both the studs are broken, this is because the stud in the top of the picture was broken when nobby no-bollocks fitted the saxo suspension, but rather than seek out a new top mount, he instead used mastik to attach the nut over the broken stud, (the dark marks on around the stud are from the glue)

131220111357.jpg

A close up of the amount of mastik on the nut, I can only assume the other stud gave way under the OMG! 954cc powah that this little puppy shits out:

131220111358.jpg

Luckily I had a spare (when I scrap an ax that has lowering springs, I undo the top mount and lift the car off of the spring, leaving the strut dangling, saves using spring compressors!)

It took about 25 mins to swap the top mount out, but the shaft is most definitely fucked, just as well I'll be fragging it in January.

Shame, I have to say I actually quite like it!

Posted

I quite like morrette headlights as made for the BX but think that they look utterly shit on that AX - the grill doesn't help so well done for replacing them

Posted

Jeez! I know this car!!!

I used to see the young lad tear arsing about and warp -4, I assumed it was only the 954 job! The saxo kit does indeed sort of work from 6 foot though! :)

Nice top mount!!

Take out the morettes before you weigh the rest in. The company went bust a few years ago and the French government seized all of their assets.

As a result they are now quite rare for any car and command a price premium and because they look 100 times better than those angel eye things you get.

A decent set for a common Mk4 Astra can even fetch about 350.

Iain: Thanks, I think I'll be stripping them to component form for spares, part them out that way.

Mike: Poke him in the eye with a rusty spoon next time you see him for me would you?

That first picture is eye bending! I never realised how close to a Saxo AXs are on top until I saw that.
