So, the guy I rent my lockup off parked this behind his garage probably 15 years or so ago. It drove in there with an mot. Today he's clearing that area out so had to er, move it. Guesses?

You are joking, right? That thing has only been left to the elements for 15 years? It looks like its been parked on the Sea bed of The North Sea for 40 years.

I know Scotland can be hard on cars weather wise but thats ridiculous.

Anyway, if anybody can work out what that pile of rust is, they will truly be the Autoshite meister.

I know. We live in a coastal town so the salt air does get them a bit but still. I wish I'd got a picture of it in the spot it had melted into the ground.

Here's another one.

MGB...... Due to the bottom arms pictured, otherwise I would have voted Marina.

Posted

I think you should vote Marina, look at the grille in the trailer

Edit- no it isn't a Marina, it's got coils.

That's not a grille, it's a bent sill trim from under the door... or a side rubbing strip. And it's a B series engine by the looks, timing cover and mounting plate, exhaust is a twin pipe, with a just visible twin carb manifold on the same side... Alternator high up on the opposite side to the manifolds, water pump with the long hose on it.... Also the detail of the top inner wing in one picture.... the "trumpet" bit is there.... I think. I might be wrong of course.

Hmm, Tuff, I'd say it's a roadster from lack of roof, RWD, Anti-roll bars fitted so quite sporty in it's day, Triumph Spitfire?

Posted

I'm going with MGB too, probably early to mid 70's chrome bumper style?

WINNAZ. The correct answers has been given but this pic kinda gives the game away. He put new tyres on it the day he stuck it around the back of the garage. The tyres still have the new nobbly bits on them!

God it's no wonder the rest of the car is gone if the elements have managed to rust the wheels through...

Posted

Funkin wars, if thats gone from usable car to that lot in 15 years......its..... er... amazing, even for an MGB.

Posted

It was an MGB GT Coupe. Before it was scooped up it sat laid out exactly as it had rotted away with the two seats and the 4 wheels and suspenson at each corner. All that was left was the bonnet as it was alloy and the roof. The front and rear screen just lay intact where the panels had disolved around them.

He's got another one thats been their maybe 10 years and now has holes you could get your head through.

So, to recap, you rent a lock up from this fella who stores an MOTd useable car OUTSIDE exposed to the elements till its not worth fook all and, anyway, he isnt too fussed because he has another motor heading the same way.

Am I the only one who can see the insanity of that?

He must be minted. :D

He is one of these guys who could just decide to re-shell it and has the skills to do it. Lots of old skool mechanical knowledge and major welding skillz (which he'd need). He's also got 3 very holy minis. Up until about 5 years ago there was 2 Lancia Gamma coupes back there but they got binned. I never saw them though.

If you stopped winding the clocks foward and backward that would be rust free*

Well this was in the news a couple of years ago. A fella out fishing had parked his 1973 101 Victor on the beach, the tide came in and caught them out and, after knackering the clutch trying to reverse it out, they gave up on it.

Considering it was a 101 Victor, a model that used to rot before your eyes, and it had been in the water for 36 years and was found half a mile out, its condition isnt a zillion miles from an MG parked up for 15 years out in the open in Scotland, on dry land.

Here are the remains. Apparently more parts were being discovered at the time, probably more parts than the MG could throw up.....
