unlikely race cars

Tony Lanfranci (sp?) used to race Moskvitch with surprising success! Watched his exploits avidly.

There is a guy in the UK who race/track days a Turbo R and has modified the bugger no end (I was a bit gutted as it was a nice car when standard and would have liked it myself!) and there are a load of them doing the same in Australia. Apparently brakes are a constant problem... 5 laps from new to ruined in one case!

There was this very tasty Datsun 280z being run on the 0-60 track at Japfest in the summer.

Also, there was this drift spec Celica which was a big surprise.

Shame most of the cars there were of the "Slammed, yo!" variety, but I digress.

From an online article (I've translated it from american):

"Unique 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, 1981 Paris-Dakar Rally entered, 2 door coupe, Toyota BJ/FJ 45 LWB chassis V8 Chevy 350 CI engine, 4 speeds. 4X4. Monocoque fibreglass body. Doors, bonnet, boot in aluminium. Roll cage. Racing seats. Fuel tank 400 litres. Power steering. Restored and ready to vintage race! Car visible in Paris France

I'm reading that as "almost no part of this car was ever a RR."
