photos from another French scrapyard.

I was in the area so swung by Tilt Autos near Beziers. My local yard is a one man and his son affair and nearly always empty, this is the polar opposite with dozens of employees, a big stock of parts already dismantled and on the shelves and a massive insurance yard not open to the public. Its been there for decades and is one of the biggest I know of.

I fooking hate double stacked yards - they put tyres between the cars here which just adds to the wobblyness an often you cant open the doors on the lower car as the tyres are overhanging the edge of the roof. Typically everything I wanted was "upstairs". I bagged a few wee bits and pieces for the Metro.

I had to be sneaky with these pics as they dont like people taking photos for some reason.

I started in the Rover dept.

I never bothered with pics of the acres of bland modern shite, piles of Laguna IIs, Clios, Scenics and 405s etc.

Towards the back of the yard, the encroaching weeds suggest there isnt much demand for this sort of stuff any longer....

Great photos, thanks for sharing.  From the sky I'm guessing it was pretty hot there, looks very exposed!

It's a shame the cars can't be bought whole, some of those older ones like the Visa and BXs would do well over here providing rust-free panels.

Some of those have survived surprisingly well to see them stacked in a scrapyard.  Get the impression they must be mechanically buggered to be in there rather than structurally unsound.  Very nice variety of stuff.

Amazing how well stuff lasts in a nice climate. That Granada looks pretty decent, I wish you could find them like that over here!

What's the weird thing on top of the Renner 4 van?

Looks like a Talbot Horizon Ultra... Am taking delivery of (one of) the last UK Horizon Ultra(s) from BenjyP later this week

EDIT it's a Jubilee

Yes, I realised I was wrong as soon as I posted it!  Never heard of a Renault 5 Rodeo, appears to be Renault's take on a similar theme though.

Don't think I've ever seen one before. Presumably we didn't get them here?

Posted

I don't get it on the astra/kadett. Those back arches used to rot out so quick here and it's not like they're mega hard mechanical wise to fix. Does seem a shame that they won't sell full cars even if they know they will be leaving France

Look at all that elbow room you get in the yard; and in the sun too! I'm used to balancing a torch with hands turning blue trying to get some wee doofer of an ovlov.

'Horizon Ultra', is that the new Bond film?

I'm still weeping into my jockeys over that Simca 1100.

Good photos. Looks to be the back of a MK1 Ibiza in the pics to. Just shows how much our climate rots cars when you see these.

looking at one of the Volvo pics got me wondering and apologies for

THREAD HIJACK but:-

Seats. Are they handed? I ask because my drivers seat on the F has a typically worn bolster. Now, assuming I can find a LHD F with the same pattern interior,  would it be reasonable to expect  a LH seat to have the same fittings/mountings regardless of steering wheel position?

It was Bastard-hot.....proper Scorchio. The thermometer said 38 degrees and I could well believe it. I was sweating like a pig just getting a few bits of trim off a Metro.

Theoretically this should work - some seats only have lumbar adjustment or memory position settings on the drivers side so that would be different, but otherwise they should be the same.

I've just shown a mk2 Astra Gte owning friend the pic of those rear arches on the Opel

He almost burst into tears !
