Well from what We have accumulated here and on the dolly forum

It seems like the main dealerships such as:

Mann Egerton

Henleys

Heron

Lambs

Appleyard

and a few others,All sold Triumphs "along side" Rover,Triumph and other BL cars.(from what i've learned their wasn't a triumph stand alone dealership.)

Other misc garages (such as birds, stanley street motors) etc were just Distributors (which sold various cars along side triumphs).

Henlys (no E) Felixstowe was in crescent road. The building still stands and is now a Blockbuster video and Felixstowe carpets shops. Henlys Ipswich was on Felixstowe road, the original building is also a Blockbuster video shop.

Ipswich also had a couple of minor BL dealers, Akesters in Woodbridge road near the Lattice Barn pub, which is now Hadleigh Tyre & Exhaust and Bailey & Piper which I think were in Barrack Lane.

There is a Henlys (Honda) in Bexhill, East sussex.

I wonder if they were BL and turned into Honda and if they are related to your Henly's. I will try to look into it.

Hello I know this thread has been inactive for years but thought people might like to know that I have been writing blog posts about Standard Triumph car dealers: http://vitessesteve.blogspot.co.uk/

I have a collection of car dealer directories that you can view and download from: http://vitessesteve.blogspot.co.uk/2016/03/triumph-car-dealer-directories.html

That's an amazing archive you've created there. I scanned through your posts trying to find something on Layhams Garage in Caterham, Surrey.

My Great Grandfather bought his Triumph Herald from there and we still have it. I believe it was a BL dealership.

The site is still a garage: selling approved used Mercedes.

Your 1988 Austin Rover dealer directory comes up as the exact same file as the 1991 Rover dealers directory. Checked and the link to both is identical as well. Would be interested to see the 1988 dealer list as well!

Thanks for pointing that out.  I have updated the link.

Here is Layhams advert from Autocar 1982.  Do you have any Layhams items you can share?post-20235-0-97372500-1494690916_thumb.jpg

My Standard was registered in Hertfordshire in 1959

Its plate is 256 FNK

Any idea what dealer that came from?

dodgytom - A number plate on a modern car may include the dealers name.  Some old older cars have items such window stickers or badges that identify the dealer.  From your question I take it that there are no such things attached to your car.

I have written a blog about tracing a cars history you may like:http://vitessesteve.blogspot.co.uk/2016/02/triumph-car-dealers-5-tracing-cars.html

Number plates can be used to point to a town or area were the plate was issued.  A quick search online tells me that: "numberplate 256 FNK was first registered on Wednesday 25th of March 1959 near Hertfordshire."
