The Brethren was a small car, I had a full-size Gran Fury.

Sorry, but for the first couple of minutes looking at that I thought the car on the right had some sort of Righteous Flamethrower thing going on setting fire to that bush....

That said, I like being able to rely on 2000 years of theological thinking without having to figure it all out myself.

I'd say that science and rational thinking has just about debunked the whole sky-god thing by now. The only parts of the world that are serious about religion nowadays are the comparatively backward ones like sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, the Indian sub-continent and the united states.

I'd rather just file it under "Not worth bothering about", myself. Ultimately, who cares? As Saint Land Rover said: "One life, live it."

I don't think that he would get very far with a Buddhist

I have no problem with scientific and mathematic rules, big bang theory and string theory etc. Scientists seem to be searching for the ultimate elegant rule that the whole universe follows with some beautiful elegant simplicity. My belief is that whatever that rule is, God wrote it. However it happened, God did it. This is not contrary to any scientific principle.

Indeed! If there is a supreme being - a, or the god, for example - what isn't to say that when he/she/it created the Earth and the universe that he had sufficient foresight to place fossilised remains of fantastical beasts, invertebrates, plants, fungi and simple life forms in the structure of that planet and watch as the ones with the free thought and free will tied themselves in knots trying to explain all that?

Never even thought of that ,

It does seem strange that we as a race have everything on this planet to keep us alive and at the same time everything to blow ourselves and the planet to smithereens .

Maybe if there is a God hes already given us a choice , maybe this is heaven but we can make it Hell if we wish .

If you look closely at the illustrations in Dante's Inferno, you can clearly see the line of damned souls queueing to enter the Woodhouse Tunnel, proving that the Leeds Inner Ring road is in fact the 5th circle of hell. The 4th circle is the outer ring road, crammed with the tormented souls of motorists who accidently joined it at J43 of the M1 and now orbit in perpetuity looking for an exit that goes to the North.

This is pretty much how I see it and I think the only real answer to the dreaded question "why do all these bad things keep happening?" Basically we are the custodians of his creation!

There is no higher being, or they'd save me from this primary school talent show. Either that, or they really ducking hate my guts.

May be the payoff for the Montego VDP I saw earlier. Maybe not.

And to think I used to be a Sunday school teacher.

Yep, it's called free will - ya know, the thing that everyone would rather die than live without. Except when they've utterly fubar'd the whole planet, then they complain that the non-existent higher power should've stopped them. :|

'Tis all OK anyway, in a few years the four elephants will all swap corners, the turtle will have a dump, and then things'll improve.

It is when I'm weaving through fuming drivers on my pushbike like today. Although today's Thursday I've just realised and I DO have to give that 9am class tomorrow
