Wowee! I had to go back and look at my original photos to see how much of an incredible job has been done here.

Wonder what would have happened to it if I hadn't taken a photo, and you hadn't ended up buying it? Other than you now being better-off, I mean...

Thanks for the kind words gents :D

Had you not taken that photo and had I not taken leave of my senses and bought it over the phone I really doubt it would have made back on the road. It was in a right old state when you scratched beneath the surface and it has had me tearing my hair out at times over the last 18 months.

But looking at those pictures I think its been worth it.

All's well that ends well!

I started this thread in 2011, time flies when you're spending eye watering amounts of cash on an old wreck :-)

It put up quite a battle right to the end but I think it's safe to say it is finished*

I treated it to a full detail yesterday, I think it looks pretty good!

That's quite impressive, these have got to be practically extinct in the UK now and I bet most people don't even remember them.  Really nice to see it given so much positive attention, especially given the end result.

They became pretty thin on the grounds anywhere.

Sadly (in hindsight) I contributed to their demise. They were prime European style autocross and folkrace fodder back in the 90s, believe it, or not.

I thus nixed five of them.

Contrary to British style autocross, in Europe and Scandinavia it's basically banger racing on rallycross tracks.

Yours truly having fun, ca. 1995:

Roof skin and bonnet were perfect on this one...

I just happened to glance at one of my old Car magazines, and found the Audi advert of a few pages back inside the front cover, and a Giant test of the 200 v BMW 728i v MB 280E. The Audi wins.

I had three of the bloody things.

Only one was any good, and it was very, very good.

But only very, very rarely did everything work together as it was supposed to.

Most of the time was spent nursing the thirsty bastard from one disaster to the next.

I'd have another tomorrow!

....aah, the Autoshite creed.

Anyway, as a lifelong Audi fetishist, I have to commend this save. Fantastic work. It looks stunning.
