I know some of us are interested in old radios and tvs - today I bought a small selection of 1930s tv sales brocuhures from Baird, GEC, EKCO and Halcyon.

I have the halcyon T.100 brochure 1937

GEC television 1937-38

Baird T11

Baird T13

Baird T5C

Baird T14

Baird T12

Baird 1938-39 all models

Ultra Television brochure 1937

New baird Grid Cell Unit brochure

EKCO Catho Ray TV brochure

Baird televisor receiver brochure - disc model - 1932-3

Full instructions for building Baird Mirror Drum Televisor - 1933

Scophony Televison brochure

GEC televisions 1938

Does anyone have an idea of value - I know it's much more than the £20 I paid for the lot but I can't find any for sale on Ebay and know they're extremely scarce?

No Idea, but I only got £20 or a working 1940's multi voltage Murphy in a lovely wallnut cabinet - thought it would have gone for more.

This would be a good place to start:

Its very closely moderated and requires registration but there are a lot of very knowledgeable people on there.

If the brochures are in good condition then a minimum of £10 each I would have thought :D , and I guess a lot more for the Baird Televisor stuff.

Wouldn't bother joining if you only want to find the value, if you think retro rides is bad for OTT moderation.. anyway the televisor brouchures will generate some interest so could be looking at £20 plus, the others around £5 onwards, its one of those things that could fetch some money on a good day depends on who wants them, put them on eBay and see how they go.

Depends on the market at the time, if it was pre-war and sold it now wouldn't be suprised if went for more than £5K.

the rules and regulations are hilarious, well worth reading. I love the ebay scandal that means no one is allowed to discuss ebay anymore, in any respect!

Are vintage radio/ tv pervs even more nutty than old car people? they certainly seem like it from that 'site.

 The moderation on the vintage radio site reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode where everyone has to think happy thoughts to stop the boy with supernatural powers punishing them. The site's full of fascinating threads which are suddenly locked half way through a discussion for no discernible reason.

Had a look at the various websites, but not much information. I found details of a Bonhams sale in 2009 of TV items, where TVs were selling for around £18,000, and some of the literature seemed to be in the region of £1000+.

Have asked Bonhams the question about value. I'll report back later.

It was the Bennet Levy collection. He owned 24 of the pre 1939 televisions, out of about 500 known worldwide.

They were expensive - I have the brochure for the T.13 Baird and it was 137+guineas new (£19,000 secondhand).

My thoughts were that the brochures were worth an easy £50-75 each with perhaps £150-250 for the pre 1933 Baird Televisor ones. I don't think I'll be far off. I also think they should be destined for a museum.

I'll probably consign them to auction as it will be the only sensible way to get real, proper money for them. Interestingly, I can find pics or pages from one or two on the net but no more than that, despite hundreds/thousands of pages on television history and technology.

the answer to what these brochures was worth seems to be £1300 plus premium.

Received a cheque in December for £998 from the nice people at Bonhams.

That looks like a decent return on investment! Well done sir!

Wow, that is an amazing amount.

Erm, anyone think Nissan Sunny brochures will be worth that much in 70 years?
