Cars so ugly,they are beautiful

Uncle Sam? What'd he have to do with the XKE?

US NADA was the only market the "E" Type was called the XKE. Ergo it makes you lot a set of wankers. It's a fucking "E" Type. So bollocks. Ner :)

There you go, Norm. :P

I like the E-type too. But only in V12 on an N Plate flavour with added 'BL' badges, which is probably the least desirable of them all. But then as per the thread title, so ugly, it's beautiful.

Earlier the better for me. I do like the V12s, but there's something not quite right about them. Reminds me of Elvis Presley getting progressively fat throughout his career.

Speaking of cars like that:

A V12 E makes a much better sound than a late-model Elvis.

The Allegro.

Plenty of people seem to despise them but they look wonderful to the eyes of some shite-ists.

Especially this...

My grandad had one from new in 1975 - I loved it... 8)

Lush! The estate version is something else too.

The saloon Allegro is charming more than anything - particularly the Vandan Plas version with its oh-so-grand grille, but I regard the estate as genuinely pretty. The shape of the rear side window is simply exquisite.

I like these Tatra's - good looking for a eastern bloc car and some would say a hint of Talbot

BMW liked the Allegro too:

Or an Hyaundai i20. In other word, bland-o-rama:

YES! Tatras are lovely, I remember drooling after a 613 police car when I visited Bratislava in 2000! However, their scarcity keeps prices quite high, so I can't foresee buying one anytime soon.

Yup. Designed for increasingly similar markets on the same software by people with a similar education who have rotated around the same car companies.

Then there are the bloody 'focus groups'...

I must admit I harbour a lot of Allegro love - another of those cars that are panned for being ugly when they're not that bad at all.

The Tatra 613 is a tricky thing to look at in photos; it looks a bit bland, boxy, a bit meh really. When you see one in the metal, it has real presence. Doesn't get any prettier, but you can't just ignore it.

Years ago, I had a 1964 Tatra 603 which was incredibly beautiful from the back but pretty hideous at the front. At the time I considered the later 613 to be a bit of a poor relation, until someone took me for a ride in one. We started off in a pub carpark, and the exit went over quite a rise then dip over the kerb onto a heavily cambered road, I'd been over it earlier and it was quite a jolt even at low speeds. We took off in this 613 at a fair pace (165bhp, same as the Rover V8) and went over the kerb onto the road as if it wasn't there. The early ones sit quite high, but Jesus Harold Christ are they good over bumps.
