Havent we already had a thread about 'my battery's tired, where should i get a new one from''?

Sure, before I managed to convince myself that the culprit was the alternator.

Right, next thread will be "Scorpio battery clamp bolt rounded/siezed" !

Betfair's about to close the market in question! :D

Or indeed...."My bonnet cable has snapped because I can't stop fucking around under there"

I think you underestimate the genious of Ford engineers. They wisely did away with bonnet cables and installed struts in their place. 8)

He means the one you pull to release the bonnet catch....

ah yes, I was thinking of the iron bar. Still I'm sure they did something daft with the cable, too.

Have you ever thought about flogging the engine to a Capri owner, weighing the rest in and then trotting along to your local Peugeot agents and asking for a "Just add fuel" deal?

Yeah, they decided to do away with it altogether and make you put the ignition key in a hole hidden behind the front badge instead... just not on scorpios.

PS, I'd far rather have a proper cable.

I think he forgets that I actually HAVE a Scorpio, and am on my 63rd Sierra..... Whilst working for a Vauxhall dealer... I also own a Focus.... strangely, it never goes wrong, probably because I DON'T FUCK ABOUT WITH IT!

This could become quite a humourous topic here, but I shall refrain from inflicting my 'humour'

I'll see if they have any 605s left, though a 504 Coupe would be even better!

Just get a new f**king battery (using information from your earlier thread, NOT a new one) and spare us another 10 pages of waffly shit posts. please.

Stating the obvious again but there is water in the battery isn't there?

I'm pretty sure I checked and there was, but I'll make sure to have a butcher's tomorrow just in case.

Yeah.

You've checked the heater matrix, right?

So I went to the biggest local factors (they're a regional chain), and said "alright, I want a battery for a 2.3 Scorpio yadda yadda". Ended up getting a Bosch one (62 quid), as the cheapo one was only 470CCA. Managed to disconnect, lift etc the old one surprisingly quickly and without injuring myself (that's an achievement!), put the new one in, and discovered that the fucking terminals are round as opposed to square. Wonder how much they'll charge the landlord for professionally cleaning the bloodstains from my head banging against the wall...

did you not check before you went to the motor factors?

No...When I had the Granada (also square terminals), I got a couple of batteries for it and both were the proper shape, so it didn't even cross my mind to check. Not like I told them "I want a 278mm battery with 540 CCA"...they sold me one for a Scorpio.

FFS.

There might well still be some interesting and worthwhile content still on Autoshite. Unfortunately if there is it has been swamped by a tidal wave of this shit.

Check that the terminals on your new battery are not square ones with a round metal 'cap' adaptor thing over them so they can be used on non-fords as well. All Fords since 1066 AD have had square terminals and all motor factor staff in the entire known universe are aware of this.

I'm afraid until proven otherwise, i will assume this problem is your error rather than the motor factors. Did you accidentally tell them it was a Vauxhall Scorpio perhaps?

Posted

^ I was caught out by that once - rang the factors back up and complained, they laughed and said "take the round caps off, it's square underneath"

Posted

the 'cap' idea did cross my mind, but the bloody round things won't move, so I'm assuming that it's just a case of wrong battery. The Ford fora suggest that it's possible to get an adaptor, but the cables are short and unwieldy, and if something could go wrong, it will....

I think we all (well, I do) make mistakes like Luxo, but don't necessarily broadcast every one across the WWW.

I've never noticed square battery terminals on Fords, the Focus I'm breaking just now has round ones.

Posted

Sometime in the late '90s ford decided they would finally conform to the "round pole" battery thing, so mk2 mondeo (onwards) and focus etc all have round terminals.

This means it is getting to be a proper pain finding batteries for my older fords in scrapyards :(

+1000000000000. Either pay a garage to sort out your problems, keep all your questions to the News 24 thread or the Stupid Question Amnesty, or buy a new fucking car (the first point still applies).

Not shite, shit.
