that ^^^ looks like a crazy Top Gear mock up. You can almost picture Hammond getting it onto its side when negotiating a roundabout

Looking at some of the over-priced old rubbish out there, that's about the standard it would seem. God help me I'm actually considering a V*lksw*g*n T25 or whatever they are.

A lot of them look really friggin crampt and miserable. I wouldn't mind a conversion myself as long as it was done to a decent standard and it had a bit more space.

Your search is over.

Austin is a work of art, lovely looking thing, but the domestic manager would definately say no unfortunately..

Messerschmitt: Cheers, as you say that VW is bloody nice. So much so I've mailed them about it, thanks.

*Edit: within a minute of sending them an e-mail I got this in return:

'Hello,

Its still for sale. Immaculate condition, no damages, nothing to worry about. All necessary documents available. My current location is Scotland due to my work commitments,If this is going to be a quick sale, I will let it go for £3,050 buy delivered at my costs. Are you familiar to eBay? I will list the van on eBay Motors for the £3,050 buy it now price and I will send you a link to my auction, so you can buy it immediate.

As soon as you will confirm the payment to eBay, I will proceed delivery without any additional costs for you.

In case you are not familiar with them, please read their Buyer Protection and will see that they cover 100% the transaction done through them up to £50,000. You will receive the van on with all the documents. As you know eBay is the best company of online transactions. If indeed interested in buying it and have the funds, I will list it on eBay, as I have a 100% positive feedback with them.

Please let me know your decision.

Thank you

Caty'

So I've done the honourable thing and asked them to list it on eBay for me. Then I'm going to create a new account, bid on it and leave them appropriate feedback :D

Cheeky sod, the fake listing/details are pretty good though I've caught them out without too much trouble. I'm not sure if the feedback is going to work but I'll certainly be trying.

Meanwhile take a look at it then try and click on their *I have removed link on the good advice of Richard*

...back later once I've cast my line again...

not sure that I would want to click on anything in that url, likely to be some nasty tricks behind that fake page. report it to ebay as a phishing page and let them waste time getting it ripped off the interwebything

Good point Richard. I think I'll just play cat and mouse now but I do have one more trick up my sleeve yet...

I bought one of those last summer, only German vehicle I've ever owned, didn't plan on keeping it long but can't see myself without it now. I don't know if I got lucky but for a 26 year old van it's survived well, they rust like any VW but the rot seems to be mostly cosmetic, so by the time they're properly rotten they'll either look it or be wobbed up and / or hand painted. They were the most useless thing to engage in van type duties of evah, rear half of floor 4 foot high, so anything you put there crashes to its death down a 2 foot drop when you brake, but as a camper such a shortfall does seem to be a benefit, in that the campy bit is reasonably spacious for the vans size, that's what attracted me to them, along with the highly unfashionable '80s breeze block styling of course. They seem hugely overpriced at first glance, but if you look past the big name conversions such as Devon, there are some out there that look good value. At 20 odd year old condition means more than the percieved quality of a brand anyway. I wanted a popup roof but ended up with a high roof, looked at quite a few pop roofs but they tended to be rustbuckets. occured to me later that popups are more likely to be used all year round, whereas the awkward clumsy looking high roofs would get parked up when summer ends and escape the winter road salting. One big minus is the inevitability that it will fall into the vw scene mong thing one day, like the sad aircool faggery, but then that would be the time to nick a poolball from the pub to stick on the gearlever, as that's like actually really like cool yeah, cos like actually, it's in like an ironic urban surrealist vibe per se, like actually yeah. Then sell to a trendy haircut clone from Brighton for the price of a year old Transit.

 @ Des.

The WestFAILia ones seem to make decent money, though there's a local one on eBay which doesn't seem too badly priced after chatting to the owner. Other than that they're either pretty rough on the lower half of the body or stupidly over-priced. I suspect one with a long MOT and visible rust (rather than hidden under paint or wob as you said) might be a better bet as at least you can see what you're getting.

Agree about the size of them, especially being handy for sleeping in as they seem just about right though I'd imagine anything over about four days away in one might start getting uncomfortable.

A lad I know got the train miles away yesterday to look at one that hadn't been described too well it turned out. Half a day off work, train fares, piddling about gettting the money from the bank etc and he took one look at it and got the train home again.

A few campers have turned up locally now inc. a diesel transit so going to try and get round a few today to see what seems best. Transit appeals because I'm a huge fan of the MK3 (especially diesels) and parts etc seem available and reasonable, though certainly not ruling out a T25.

It seems I am, never done Fords or Vauxhall, mostly proper English stuff, when I've strayed it's been French, Italian or Japanese. I'm actually suprised I've never nabbed a BMW, they've built some fine ass 6 cyl cars, suppose there's always been something else I'd rather have.

Back to campers, introducing a bit of logic, they need to be reliable, much of the older stuff is pretty likely to grenade engine or box after an hour or so at motorway speed, just imagine that, all hyped up ready to enjoy the freedom the van provides to escape the mind numbing tedium of daily life, then spending 6 hours standing on a hard shoulder in the pissing rain. That in mind, the 2.5 diesel Transit makes sense, finding one not held together with wob and window putty might be tricky, but I'm sure they exist.

F*cking b*ll*cks.

Just been to see one two miles away I found on an internet search. T25, high top diesel, long MOT blah, blah blah. Anyhow turned up to see it and it's bloody tidy. Very tidy. All the bits we need are there for the odd weekend away, seller is very pleasant and I get the feeling it's genuine old bus from a genuine old seller.

So the problem?

It's a two berth. The high top 'room' would be too small for a midget, pygmy contortionist's baby and because it's got sort of Recaro type front seats there's not much chance of making one of them lie flat so another bed could be created.

There is an awning with it so that's a possibility I suppose but it'd be muggins here who had to sleep in it and I'm too old for canvas.
