Finally sold: Renault Scenic and the Fray Bentos pie

Shiters,

Got her indoors' Scenic up for sale for £200 plus a steak and kidney Fray Bentos pie. Pie not negotiable.

1996 2.0 RXE auto. 137K miles, MOT to end of August, tax to end of September.

Auto box is playing up a bit. Basically, if it's hot and it sits in traffic it doesn't always drop into creep when you pull up to a stop. You have to raise the revs while on the brakes and it clonks in. If you're away from London traffic or using it on the motorway it's fine. It started doing it around the 100K mile mark and is now annoying because there is always traffic where we live.

Battery is dead and will need replacing but alternator charges fine. Usual grot around the wheel arches. Exhaust is blowing a bit. Central locking does not work on the boot. Oil needs changing.

Interior is in great condition and everything works. A/C works fine. Tyres have about 10K miles on them. New brake pads and shoes about 5K miles ago.

Don't expect it to be mint because it's not. It's a driving car, but if you want to buy it to break it and make a profit then be my guest.

Pics as follows.

(p.s. I'm the same Jonny69 on RR so you can contact me there too)

Oh, aye, and it's in SE London...

Would it not weigh in for £200?

Posted

Probably would, wheels and cat separate.

Was this not for sale by another shiter not long since? Smells just like her.

What is the sell buy date on the pie? I used to work for the company that makes Fray Bentos and if the pie was made in Autumn 2008 the kidney will probably have boar taint - this is when a boar's kidney accidentally slips into the kidney vat...in the Autumn boars turn into porcine shagging machine4s and will literaly shar anything - the hormone that provokes this releases a strong pheromone which gets caught up in the urinary system and thus the Kidney - so strong is this that a single kidney can taint a whole vat of other kidneys- it is totally harmless to humans but makes the kidney rather strong tasting. Premier had a problem with Fray Bentos seak and kidneys getting boar taint in late 2008 - some folk lke it but most find it too strong. I personally prefer the steak and ale Fray Bentos pie which avoids this issue and is a pretty good quality product...

oh - the Renner is great value - I am writing up a road test of our 2002 Mk1 phase 2 1.6 manual - very capable if dull all round family car - flippin bargain!

btw - loadsof these built so finding a scrap auto box should be easy - requires the engine out but if you have got the time and tart up the wheel arches you could punt it in a local paper for 1200 quid - a lot of demand for cheap MPVs

^^ +1. Mate had big bother getting a cheapo lately.

Renault's auto boxes really are shite. An absolute bargain. Run it for as long as you can, pie in glove box, then when it gives up altogether, eat pie while waiting for scrapman to come and give you most of your £200 back! Wish I lived remotely near London, this would sit nicely beside the Avantime!

This is starting to read like an ebay listing, it's quite clear the pie is part of the purchace cost, in what universe does £200 get you a car and a pie, bloody dreamers.

BTW, could fresh ATF cure the autobox?

I am slowly warming to ours, the engine is pretty smooth if underpowered in the Scenic and second gear engages when it feels like it. It is comfortable and has quite a nice ride. The twin electric sunroofs are quite cool. 8)

It has a few of the traditional Renault virtues i.e. rust, body roll, brittle plastic trim and accesing certain parts in the engine bay is a case of mind over matter. It took me ages to find the battery, eventually did under the drivers seat!

No, but I did offer it to a shiter about 6 months ago and probably put a pic or two up?

Just haven't got the time unfortunately. Other than the box, this has needed next to nothing in the 6 years we've had it. A proper trooper!

That looks like Upper Norwood to me! Bargain, glwts

Beckenham, not far off :D

Yay, finally! The pie is part of the purchase cost!

Swapped the fluid a few months ago. It hasn't made a huge amount of difference, but because it's not got a dipstick tube I could only put back in the same as what I took out plus a safe guess with a bit more.

Yep, I only found the battery because I HAD to find it lol :D

Don't know what size engine yours is. I heard the 1.6 is pretty gutless, but the 2.0 in this one flies along.

Ours is the 1.6. We had the exact same (1.6RT) in the car version (the one for sale a few posts down) and it was a lot quicker. I know of a woman with the 1.4 model which must be pretty grim, but perfect Autoshite spec!!

We had a flat battery in Sainsbury's a few weeks ago, my battery pack was in the 14 so we had to call the AA. I felt like a right idiot looking under the bonnet for the battery when the AA man came  ! He found straight away of course!!

But there is that big plastic cover under the bonnet with a picture of a battery on it. Then when you take the cover off, instead of a battery there's just a gert big shiny terminal with a + stamped on it :D

More to the point what kind of pie is it?, I had a Steak and Bacon pie last week whilst in Yorkshire, the home of the pie, and i thoroughly enjoyed it, If it's one of these I could be tempted (or not) but if it's a steak and kidkey pie then you can keep it, Yuck!

Oh balls, I misread that, In that case could i, as a potential purchaser, make full payment only in pies?.

I thin the complexity of this whole pie situation is putting off potential buyers.

I did think about this for a while, but then I realised I'd be having to get through some 130 pies and at the end of the day it's her car and I bet she wouldn't see see the funny side of it :D

What's the lowest you'll take Pal?

Got 100 quid and a Ginsters 'Lips, eyes and Arseholes' meat pie - take it or leave it.

Posted

The ironic thing is this time next year the car will probably be housing the pies.

^^^ Or Tesco Value toasters.

Maybe even another Megane - saw an undamaged 03 plate on at the 'yard today - they don't last long.

Just shows you what the car world thinks of Scenic Autosplatics if you can't even flog one on here for a couple of ton and a pie.
