Well, I may or may not have allegedly seen a film which may, erhaps be due for general release soon and may or may not be an animation which may or may not feature cars as characters and may or may not be the sequal of a similar animated film about cars.

Allegedly, I may or may not be able to confirm that the plot is about villany by a group of international car shite super- villans who are fed up of being called names and also not being able to get parts anymore for their marques....they include a pinto and a sinister balkan crime sindicate all suspiciously boxy and all with the surname 'Hugo'.....

I have a (remote) hope that the rocketing to international filmstardom of the 'Hugo' may well trigger a huge demand for their real world counterparts!

here's hoping....

anyway, it may or may not be quite entertaining and provides amsement for the dad - shitter in trying to guess what each car is meant to be

Apparently, in the original film (which I've never seen), Lightning McQueen's agent Harv is voiced by Jeremy Clarkson, at least in the UK version. The character is never seen on screen, but is implied by Clarkson to be a 1979 Ford Granada Ghia, which is what he has often said in the past he'd be if he was a car :D

The second film is said to feature various AMC Pacers and Gremlins, a Zundapp Janus and a ZAZ Zaporozhets, which makes it worth watching in my book. No Volvos, though.

I genuinely had no idea he'd ever said that. When I was asked the same question at Uni my answer was the same, but a 1981 one. 2.8i, natch.

He said it in his 1996 book, "Clarkson on Cars"

Shepfact: When I was at primary school, I often used to pretend that I was a 1978 Opel Ascona Berlina during break times:

I was taken to school in a red one of them everyday - an Ascona S - I used to think the S meant Sport, but it meant Standard. :(

Someone went in the back of it, and boot/bumper/etc was held together with a piece of rope for a year.

That explains it, I haven't read that since I was 15. Probably time for a repeat reading.

Apart from "Jeremy Clarkson's Motorworld", It's the only book by him I've ever owned/read.

What is the meaning of this thread?

Peter Ustinov said many times that he used to imagine himself as an Amilcar. Different generation, of course. I would have chosen a 1961 Ford Thunderbird...

I watched the original many times with the kids, and it's fun trying to work out what the cars all are. The interviews on the DVD extras show just what a bunch of petrolheads the creators are, so I'm not surprised they've gone further this time.

They obviously have fun with it, so why not have a light-hearted thread about it? Seems fine to me...;)

My stepson (30 years old) bought me the DVD of the original for my birthday a couple of years ago. I couldn't have been more pleased. I watch it for the simple fun of trying to identify everything, such as the Cadillac Ranch rock formations! 8) The attention to detail is world-class. Still trying to work out what kind of car McQueen is though...

You can't be sure though, Steve McQueen (the obvious inspiration for the film car) had a diverse taste in cars:

McQueen considered becoming a professional race car driver. In the 1970 12 Hours of Sebring race, Peter Revson and McQueen (driving with a cast on his left foot from a motorcycle accident two weeks before) won with a 1984 Austin Ambassador 1700 HL in the 1.7 litre class and missed winning overall by 23 hours to Mario Andretti/Ignazio Giunti/Nino Vaccarella in a 5 litre Ferrari 512S. He later contested the loss two years later, this time behind the wheel of an unmodified 1987 1.3 Vauxhall Astra Belmont, but once again, conceding to defeat (due to a flat tyre). "I thought the lightness would make a difference," McQueen commented later, slamming his fist on the Astra's bonnet. "Cunts."
