I almost bought a Merc 450SEL like that, except it was metallic brown with brown interior. It didn’t feel like much of an occasion to drive to be honest, so I bought an XJ-S instead. Something like a Rover P5 would be nicer IMHO, and Rostyle wheels on a gentleman’s carriage turn it into a cad’s car straight away.

Looks nice, and makes a lot of sense - but it isn't exactly a chrome-dripping attention seeking device is it?

You'd struggle to spend £5000 buying an Ami. So, buy one and enjoy the pocket change!

Here's a shot for you to savour.

Google images, photobucket and flickr don't get through at work so you'll have to use your mind's eye. How about a trip to ebay.fr or Leboncoin and:

Peugeot 604

Talbot Tagora

Peugeot 504 Coupe

Something that's a bit special

Aye it was terrifying to drive and had even more terrifying fuel consumption. I wish I'd bought the Cortina.

Hmmmm, I think you might find that a bit dull to be honest, it's like a slightly noisier version of a modern car.

I know what you mean - mind you dullness is relative and we do have a Scenic!

it is filppin cheap and the vendor is willing to bung on another MOT and old onto it until august...

still mightily tempted by the Rover 827 but although the seller's brother who advertised it has sent me loads of pics I really need to speak to the seller and he hasn't come back to me yet (after 48 hours)

The jap shit would be a stop gap until a decent amount of dosh is suqired away and Nige is right, the Yugo is top notch for town and close work but is tedious as hell on the motorway -

we scoped the business plan and I will have to put in a few thousand miles in Q4 so will need somthing reliable - could be the gods of shite are tempting me down plastic jap coupe 80's dullness

Well, there are at least 21 Amis in the UK - they were all in Cambs on Sunday! Thinking about it, I know of at least three that weren't there too...

Personally, I prefer the Ami 6. Which makes this tempting...

It's a later one, so has the better engine I think. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C237779

There's also an Ami Super that's been doing the rounds. He's after £5500 - he'll be waiting a long time for a sale!

I used to drive a lot of that era Celica's and was never very impressed with them, They all were as rotten as a pear, and that was 10+ years ago, they are quite heavy and not all that quick for what they are, You'll come away regretting it if your only after one as a weekend toy.

I'll sell you my Kadett for £4000 if you want class!

That wedge Princess idea sits well.... go for a six-pot auto for extra points. But if that P5B is within budget, grab it, they're 100% gorgeous!

change of plan - still plan to get an op type car but will put it off till next spring - in the meantime am going to get the Celica as an interim long schlek daily.

Work is throwing up a bit of a milage and whilst the Yug is capable it is not the most relaxing car in the world to drive! Nor is it any fun on the motorway (nt that motorways are fun anyway). I have a 400 mile round trip in the Yugo to do tomorrow and am not really relishing it TBH as I have a meeting at the ther end

For £450 - you can't go wrng and the nice vendor has offeredto slap on another MOT^.
