Stupid question re EKHZOAST.

Got a quick LPG service done to the Scorpio this morning (the system hadn't been touched for five years but still ran spot on!) and I asked the garage to have a look at a small grinding noise coming from the underside every time the car lands from a bump. They came back saying that the exhaust was being held together with a material "less sturdy than cheese" and, aside from the front pipe which is pretty new, it needs binning and changing. I don't think they were trying it on- they weren't really an exhaust type of place, and the guy himself recommended to "look for one on the internet", but is it possible for an exhaust system to be toast while remaining perfectly normal-sounding and smooth in terms of airflow?

They rot from the inside out, so yes it's possible.

Yup. Entirely. See my references to Omegas. They sound great, until you touch them or indeed look at them. What engine is in yours?

2.3 - probably a very tough bit of kit, plus no belt to worry about, but needs quite a bit of revving to get the torque going and the fuel consumption is absolutely horrendous- I'm convinced it's costing me more per mile on LPG than I would spend on petrol if I were to use the 2.2 Honda!

So, now that it's almost been established that a new one is needed, would you be forking out for a new exhaust right now or just tightening it a bit and not worrying about the whole thing till it starts sounding funny and/or it's time for the MOT (December)?

I'd be happy to make it last until such time it's completely knackered.

*Just thought I'd get a reply in before it reaches ten pages :D

That's exactly what I wanted to hear.

Give it a bit of time. That's exactly what'll happen after it comes apart, catches fire, burns a couple of OAPs and then lands on the roof to knacker the rest of the car.

Best thing about exhausts, they can completely fall off and the car still works.
