Cos I've got a '53 plate Mondeo 1.8 LX with 12 months MOT and 6 months tax. 120,000 miles, been bumped on n/s/r arch and door but nothing to worry about (passed MOT today, folks..), ex cab, black, aircon, cruise, cd player etc.

£750. No messin' abaaaaaaht.

This is the pretty side. I've not got pics of the bump yet, but I've been driving it about today and it's not bad.

Just thought I'd ask 'ere before I chuck it in Autotrader or a classified ebay job for a bit more.

With that picture, it's hard to tell if you are Cavette or The Doctor.

Despite my absolute loathing of Mondeos I'd be all over that if I had the readies. That is one cheap car.

Why dont you, me and cavette start a banger rally for cheap but not sold cars? Shite to Whitehaven, or something. When we get there we can just push them into the sea and get pissed while taking bets on which one dissolves first.

Nah, anyone interested in sensible motoring would do well* to PM me about a certain Accord.

:lol::lol::lol:

Possibly the acest idea ever suggested SOC.

That's one seriously cheap motor, would love to have it but seeing as I have no moolah and a 306 Diesel daily that I can't shift then it's a no from me :(

Oh Christ, My Mondeo is a year newer, done 40k less and cost £5000 more! , And You'll have no DMF too worry about on a petrol (I think)

All I can say about it is this.

MOT'd it this morning, front pads are slightly low, as are the nearside tyres. One of the rear tyres is directional and was pointing the wrong way, so it initially failed on that. Headlight aim was low and it took a while to warm up for the emissions - which it flew through once warmed up.

Drives surprisingly well for an ex-cab. It has the clunk from the rear that seems compulsory on every cab from every manufacturer, and an indeterminate wheel bearing type noise that comes and goes, but no play for the MOT... All the bushes seem sound. It tracks straight, brakes straight and rides pretty well. It's comfy, and the aircon etc all works. It's not spotless inside, but it's not bad at all. I've given it a thorough vacuum and there are a couple of holes in the carpet here and there. It's an ex-cab. There are a few random holes in the dash, too, but just where things have been screwed in. Nothing broken, but a few selftappers have met it in the past. The steering wheel, pedals etc all feel right for 120k miles with a few cabbie ones here and there. It has the heated windscreen.

The paintwork has typical cab signs of life. Mainly scratches on the roof where it's had a roof sign and aerial. Also present are the typical cabbie mark where filling station hoses have been dragged over it. A fair few would polish out, but probably not on the roof.

Other than the n/s/r door, leading edge of the n/s/r wheelarch and a couple of gouges in the same 1/4 the thing is pretty straight. Bumpers and all the other panels seem very straight indeed. At the moment, the o/s/r wheeltrim is missing, I'm gonna get one tomorrow. The wheel arch repair panel is not expensive if you were so inclined, and the going rate for a rear door seems to be between £20 and £50 depending on condition, colour, etc. This has keep fit rear windows, so a complete door in panther black may be a dead quick easy fix.

I've been right through the cars electrical jobbie OBD wise and there are no fault codes anywhere in it.

It isn't by any means mint, but there's no rust on it and it appears mechanically sound. In fact, if anyone (Mainland UK...) is interested but thinks Liverpool is too far away, If you buy it, I'll deliver the bloody thing for cost of the fuel and the train ticket home.

I'll get some more pics up tomorrow if anyone is interested.

Not my first choice of repmobile, but at £750 - cracking value, that is… I preferred the slightly earlier ones before they put that cheesy chrome grille in the front, but pah...!

The clunk from the rear is very common on these Mondeo’s. It's usually the rear subframe bushes if memory serves me. A common complaint. We had several of these on the fleet where I used to work and most of them started to go at around 80k upwards…

Subframe bushes would be an MOT fail. This sounds more like an exhaust rubber...

What's the road tax like on these?

Posted

6 Months Rate £115.50

12 Months Rate £210.00

One thing I will add here after doing that DVLA check (Sorry Pete) is that there's a VIC marker against it meaning that it's been in a accident at some point and needs to be checked before going back on the road or something like that.

Yup, that's because of the n/s/r door/arch bump. If you investigate further, you'll find it was clouted last month. A week after passing it's hackney test...

Furry muff!, My old Passat was on a VIC, I think it just means you don't get road tax reminders.

The check is £42 and takes about 10 minutes, have to book in first though. If I keep it, I'll do it... actually quite like the thing.

I was'nt really looking forward to getting mine as I loved my old Xantia so much, however it has been a brilliant car. They have an appetite for springs and calipers, and that's about it. The only thing I don't like is the rather harsh ride, combined with our crappy roads, means that sometimes you think your fillings are going to come out.

If you don't sell it you can enjoy it as a cheap runabout.

I'm amused that I've not had so much as a sniff from anyone on this. Ah well, ebay at the weekend, let the knobheads commence.

May know someone interested - have you better pictures Pete? including the damaged area. Has the Vic check been done yet?

Cheers

At the moment a family member is using it, when it returns I'll get better pics. Will get VIC check done as well....

Trouble is, these Mondeos have fallen out of bed with a bang. At my local auction (Bawtry) there are just loads of them from £250 upwards - £250 for a tatty Y plater and a grand for a half decent 54 plate. The last shape Vectras (Veccy C?) seem to be in more demand although which is more Council out of the two is open to debate.

A mate bought a really clean X plate Passat 1.8 for £325 last week - and it's really sweet. Fuck all wrong with it, apart from being an X reg Passat...which is clearly a problem.

Cue phone hell for you Pete.

"Aalrite Pal, woss' ya best price? Woss t' lowest yull tek?'

How I envy you. :D
