Was watching How It's Made today and saw this

 

 

I'd previously only read about it. But I saw this feature today and though it was interesting. Any other interesting bits of automotive technology which just never made it?

There was an experimental Triumph 200/2500 estate with the Stag engine that also had Fergusson 4wd and an auto-dipping main beam. The 4wd made it, but the auto-dipping main beam didn't at the time.

The super special sheet magnesium motorbike frame, I designed and stress tested on Autocad, in Robert Gordon's cad lab, over several weeks in '93. Would've been good, if I could've found anyone with deep enough pockets to let me try it for real. It used a small amount of NASA technology...

'Twas the first or second (iirc) year of it being 'The Robert Gordon University'. Or 'The University of Royal Deeside'*, as we often signed into Aberdeen Uni's union...

 

*Which legend had it, the board paid an 'image consultant' a quarter of a mil to devise...

Wasn't the G-Lader charger thingy something that didn't really get accepted?

 

PPC used (or still have) a section called 'Wasn't made here' which have crazy inventions, usually German.
