Rusty Retro Renault Rescue!! 1983 Renault 5 (NOW BREAKING)

My Dad was given one of these as a 'company car' back in 1979 when he worked for Millwall Football Club.

He bought me a matchbox model, same colour blue. I still have in somewhere I think.

Until a few years ago there was a 70s one still running around Wrexham, owner lived up by a mate of mine. Its gone now though sadly.

I remember our neighbour's having a bright green one many years ago. Always thought they were somewhat odd looking, the mk.2 looks more "right"

What a shame, it's finished without a bite at the start price.

What's in store for it now?

It didnt sell on ebay this time round but I do have some interested partys I'm in talks with.

IF that falls through ill except £100 for it or ill stick it back on the BAY

Just to give you guys the heads up on here :-)

That car needs to meet someone who wants to learn welding skillz, sadly there may not be anywhere left to stick the earth clamp. I wonder how feasible or economically viable would it be to source one sans rot from France, and perform a reshell.

NOW £100 TAKES IT!!!

With the best will in the world, wouldn't you be better off stripping it of all useful parts to sell on, and then weigh the shell in? I'd wager that whoever buys this would do the same, or worse, run it straight over the bridge.

Stripping some bits off is the next stage.......... just giving it one more chance!! :|

After trying to sell a car, this is what I'm doing now. Sometimes it's just not worth the hassle. :(

Imagine the kudos you'd get on here if you bought a brand new Iranian chassis to reshell it!

This.

Theres bits on it I'd have but its loads easier to come down and exchange cash for old Renault parts (or better still to exchange cash for old Renault parts in the post. But I digress) the trouble is, as much as I could have a use for some bits, the thought of buying it, driving down with a trailer, dragging it home, taking the bits off that I want and fragging the rest means it would be monumentally expensive and very time consuming.

So, if you end up breaking it, give me a shout, I'm interested in a few bits :D

PM me with all your needs and roughly how much you would pay and Ill keep you posted on what happens to it!

If i get enough interest in the parts to make it worth my while I may even pull it off ebay early

Ill do any parts on a first come first served basis 8)

As a complete Renault nut, I'd like to take my hat off to you uncle silvia, for going out of your way to try and save something which is, without doubt a piece of motoring history really. I've never really been a massive mk1 5 fan, mainly because we never had them when I was younger. I love the Superfives because I have great memories of them from years ago.

Simple fact, as many people have pointed out, is that you'd need to be really brave to restore this 5. Sad, but it's true that you really can't save them all - I've binned some really rare 18s and I regret it, but the bits in my loft will hopefully allow my memories of Renault 18s to keep going by keeping mine on the road for years. This 5 has loads of useful bits and certain mechanical parts are like rocking horse sh*t to enthusiasts. Probably time to spend a weekend dismantling - although my experience tells me that people usually want the bits cleaned, bagged and part numbers attached!

If this were France, it would probably still be on the road, judging by some of the stuff on leboncoin

p.s. Mr Lobster - talking of being realistic - guess where that R11 Electronic of yours is coming to live?! That's right, Winterley Renault Infirmary 8)8)

Good stuff. Whats the plan for it then? Parts donor or getting fixed?

I said to Chris the other week that we should all get together at some point to discuss old Renaults!

Reminds me of when Brett Fraser stripped his Edinburgh For A Monkey 18 for banger racing. I know that's not your intention - it's just your photos have a similar vibe. If any Crown Mimosa Yellow appears I will start to worry.

Good luck with the parts sale. Hopefully you won't get any gumps PM-ing you wanting bits for thruppence.
