RENOMAD Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Does the new Future Shite Renault Latitude look very like the Honda Accord
Shep Shepherd Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I wonder how long it will be until the Latitude is universally referred to in the trade and in car enthusiast circles as the Lassitude?
Guest marcellogandini Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 They both look like electrical appliances crossed with running shoes.
CIH Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I honestly wonder how they choose between one or the oter when they do stuff like car of the year and what not. Honestly, the Honda will likely be more reliale (not guaranteed 'course) but other that.........?
25v6turbo Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Its not being released in the U.K,looks a bit bland to say the least!!
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I'm pretty sure that's just a rebranded Samsung car (IIRC SM5?) - the Koreans may make great cars, but they still seem to struggle on the design front.
Formula Autos Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 As other have alluded to, t'was ever thus:Cortina Mk3Opel Commodore of similar vintage
Negative Creep Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Looks better than the current /aguna, of which they appear to have sold about 5 in the UK
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 On another note, what's with the stupid trend for Renault to go for multi-syllable words for their models? If Fluence is a bit challenging for Slovaks due to an overabundance of vowels, how will people in Poland, Turkey or Finland pronounce fucking "Latitude"? At least it makes it dead easy to adopt shite monikers for them- Flatulence and Platitude in these instances.
Cavcraft Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 ahem. Better still: I thought (probably wrongly!) there was a link between these two, probably both Farina designed?
AnthonyG Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I wonder how long it will be until the Latitude is universally referred to in the trade and in car enthusiast circles as the Lassitude? Latitude's fine, the replacement for the Megane saloon is the (EF) Fluence. I kid you not! http://www.renault-fluence.com
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I thought (probably wrongly!) there was a link between these two, probably both Farina designed? You're absolutely correct, however they were supposed to be rival cars!
AnthonyG Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I thought (probably wrongly!) there was a link between these two, probably both Farina designed? Correct - both designed by Pininfarina, or at least his company. BMC was first - 1959, Peugeot followed in 1960. His must have laughed cashing those cheques!
Formula Autos Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Pininfarina must have had another good laugh in the late '80s when they grifted the same basic design to both Peugeot and Alfa.
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 ...and don't forget the 605! I think the 605/164 similarity (unlike the 405, the 605 was a direct competitor of the Alfa) was the straw that broke the camel's back for Peugeot- AFAIK it was about then that they started designing the mainstream models in-house (no wonder most of them are minging!).
Formula Autos Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Pininfarina designed a few Peugeots after that mind - in fact the 306 cabrio and 406 coupe even had Pininfarina badges on the side.
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 AFAIK, the ones with the badges were actually coachbuilt by Pininfarina- but mainstream stuff is done in-house, and I think the current CCs are in-house designs, too.
cms206 Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Looks better than the current /aguna, of which they appear to have sold about 5 in the UK Saw an 11-plate one today, which caught me by total surprise... think it was a taxi too, oddly enough
RoadworkUK Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 AFAIK, the ones with the badges were actually coachbuilt by Pininfarina- but mainstream stuff is done in-house, and I think the current CCs are in-house designs, too. You can tell that, too, by the fact that they are utterly hideous. Also, am I the only one who finds the Peugeot RCZ unattractive, with that same enormous toothy grin as the lower models? The Peugeot range would do well to head back in the direction of dull uniformity.
morris_ital_lover Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Latitude's fine, the replacement for the Megane saloon is the (EF) Fluence. I kid you not! So Renault will have (Ef)fluence and L'Atitude (supposing the car prove temperamental) in their range +1 for naming consultants... I suppose they could have called it something simple like a couple of letters/numbers instead. m0rris
