Pick up Sat on transporter. Had to be the worst ebay ad ever, not even mentioning it was an estate and sold as spares and ending at 05.28 in the morning..

Great e-bay skills mr seller. Mine for the princely sum of £375, what could possibly go wrong?

Nope, can't think of anything

Well, the engine management light is on and it won't rev over 3.5k so there's a start.

The way I figure it working Xenons, 17" alloys with new tyres and half leather interior should break to a tidy sum if all else fails!

What you have there is Murphy's Law on wheels. I wish you the very best of British Luck with it!

Well the 406 estate is going at the weekend at that has been boringly reliable so I felt I needed a little adventure in my life

Its in limp mode then? Just having a gander round the WWW and somebody with a diesel model had the same problem and found that it was "brown wire from main engine relay had rotted"

You could have a bargain there, if your lucky.

Thumbs up for a proper shite purchase! No pissing about with you! :D

Wow, the automotive equivalent of unprotected sex with a thai ladyboy. "What could go wrong"? :D

But for that price as you say - flog the wheels and the xenons and the rest will weigh in to break even. That's daft money!

I reckon these look alright for a modern, but that has to be the worst colour choice ever!

You should get a month or so of tedium from it before getting your money back as others have said so it does seem like a bargain... To be honest I'm constantly shocked that you can pick up what to me is still a brand new car for so little coinage. Good work!

Please post a picture of all the warning lights on, with a haze of electrical smoke wafting through the shot, all accompanied by the "Hamlet" cigar tune on the CD player

The wagon really is a well proptioned shape, still a very handsome design - well done that man! Just think in a months time when you quote your AA membership number you will here klaxon's sounding over the phone...

They did other colours?

You certainly have balls, Peter! Actually, I quite like the look of this generation of Laguna estate - other than that grey flappy pannel thing at the front of the bonnet.

An old neighbour of ours had a 53 plate estate in blue. It was brand new when he bought it. It was on the back of a low loader with an electrical fault just under two weeks later…

For that price though – very decent value and a cracking find. It would be worth more in parts.

As for the colour – nice…!

A little update......

The car is now immobile at a mate's yard, but did pass the MOT last week with no advisories. This was after a quick trip to Renault to read the fault codes and clear them. The car then ran spot on for the rest of that day until I got back in after paying the MOT man. Started the car up and it lit up like a Christmas tree again. Believe me driving down the M3 at a top speed of 58mph is no fun!

Back at the yard and a quick poke around and I decide to whip the ECU off and send away for testing/repair. What a wonderful location for an ECU BTW, under the battery tray with all the contacts facing towards the front of the car! Surprisingly all the contacts were clean with no corrosion whatsoever ( must have a force field around them).

Though I'd investigate another little problem that I discovered in that one of the rear doors won't open from the outside but is fine from the inside. Stripped it all out and it would appear to be an internal problem in the mechanism (mechanical not electrical, shock horror). £12 later on e-bay and a new mechanism bought, arrived yesterday so thought I'd fit it. All went back together swimmingly and door opens from outside, nice. However now won't open from inside, child lock methinks, twiddle child lock thing on the door and now won't open from inside or outside, bumsticks. Lost interest after this and decided that was enough for the day.

As for the colour, it appears to be a rather rare (for a Laguna II) colour, Andalucian Red. It is a solid red and not metallic.

Oh and I cured the tyre pressure sensor warning light by putting the wheels on the correct corners! The valves are colour coded and there is a chart on the driver's door pillar showing which colour goes on which corner. This must have been lost on the people who fitted the new tyres. Mind you at least they didn't remove the special valves from the the rims as some do.

Not doubt this saga will continue and I will keep this thread updated as and when

Heard back from the ECU bloke today to say it's on it's way back to me. Great methinks, what was wrong with it? Absolutely bugger all ! Bloke seems to think it may be a problem on the relay box. Job for tomorrow ripping that all out and checking everything, will be royally pissed off if it turns out to be a bad connection or something.
