Too much emphasis is placed on materialism and "things" that you HAVE to have.

 

I have decided to declutter my life and quite a lot of it is ending up either on eBay or in the camping trailer waiting for a car boot sale.

 

I even switched from a Mach 3 razor to a 1930's Gillette Tech ( I did have an iKon, but as they are worth silly money now its being sold).

Lovely, uncomplicated and blades cost just pence.

 

iPod? nope. C-90 tapes - oh yeah.

Expresso coffee maker? Nope. Lidl instant coffee and the hot water tap - oh yeah!

Can you recommend a decent safety razor that's likely to sell for under £10 or not much more? I bought a new Wilkinson Sword effort a couple of years ago and it's shit.

Boots own brand one is a Gillette 7 O'clock copy made in Egypt by Lord and isnt bad - at sub £5 its not going to rob you blind.

Enrol with a UK based forum such as The Shaving Room, as they often come up on there cheaply. Otherwise give me a week of two and I will dig out a 1940's gold plated tech I have up at the caravan (im not going up there for a couple of weeks as Im on nights) and you can have that for a fiver.

Amazon can be your friend with something like the DE89 which isnt bad.

Start with a tech head then move onto something like the DE89 or Merkur 1904 open comb head to get a closer shave - both are sub £10 if you know where to hunt for them.

Blades make a massssssssssive difference. Boots/Asda/Sainsburys own brand Personas are OK, but you really need to be sourcing something decent like the Gillette Thins, Gillette 7 O'clock Yellows or Gillette Bleue extras - they shave well, arevery smooth and last ages.

If I did a "50 things" piece based around my own life, there'd probably be change from a tenner. I like having stuff, but all my stuff is worthless and crap and nobody wants it. Life's a hell of a lot easier/cheaper if you appreciate the detail in things nobody wants anymore. If I was impossibly rich, I'd just have more worthless old crap, a whole warehouse full of it.

 

A friendly local coffee
