Albert Ross Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I recall (only just) seeing one (in time to stop) on the North Circular approx 1985... I was in a Hiace van B233EOM, on my way to Birmingham via bloody EVERYWHERE from Central Londinium (Cheers Steve you twat) and this knobber decided to just well ..... turn right in his little white coffin. Arm out, not a fucking care in the World. I was just trundling along, minding my own business, and this 2 foot tall THING just bobbed from the gutter to the offside lane in a flash. I had a severe wheel wobble all the way up the bastard M1. The van had flat spotted both front tyres at 40mph. I'll give the nips one thing. Fucking good brakes. Talking of nips. Have you seen the bird in the Antidote thread? PHWOOOAR! I would. Even though she's probably 25 years older. Might have no teeth by now. YES!
Jon Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I remember seeing one a C5 in a junk shop in York for about £50 circa the early 90s, desperately wanted it. Being that I was just some dumb skint kid, it wasn't going to happen. Mate bought one last year that he is restoring though, so I'm going to have a go on his instead. That C5 is still there at the ever-famous purveyor of severely overpriced tat, Dave Dee Shifts Things on Picadilly. They totally redeem themselves though by having a Daihatsu Hi-jet luton van! Perhaps you could go take a look when you're next in the area Hirst...?
Lord Sterling Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Bloody 'ell, the first time I saw a Sinclair C5 in all its White plasticness was at some motor gathering fair at Himley Hall some years ago. A bloke had it up for sale, I think he wanted something like £400 for it. I didnt realise until I saw it that the steering bit was under your legs, never tried one and I dont think I sat in it, I would really like to try one though.

I'm astounded. Damn right I'm going to take a look!
gtd2000 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I'm not old enough to remember the '80s, but it's nice to know it was exactly how I imagined. The 80's were actually really pretty good if you ignore all that Stock, Aitken and Waterman crap that's usually brought up when portraying the 1980's. Loads of great bands around in the punk, indie and alternative genres. I used to spend most of my weekends hanging out in punk clubs in Germany and remember wondering WTF was going on when I went to a disco in Cyprus (around 88~89) and watching all these people with their hands in the air shouting ACEEEEEEEEEEEEEED every so often Had to admit Stakker Humanoid was a very cool tune Rose tinted glasses aside, yes I suppose most of it was really shite
flat4alfa Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 We couldn't get involved in this 'Domesday' project ...probably because Thatcher closed our school down
andrew e Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 Strangely I talked to the wife (said it was strange!) and she remembered it from school, siting Ms Krelle as her teacher at the time (why do wimin' remember this?) anyhoo, guess whose moniker was on THIS? However dissapointingly she never remembered this FSO dispite living in the next road til 1998.
scooters Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Brilliant stuff - Only a BRITISH project could result in one of the most important social projects of the age being stored on a system that is no longer accessible! It's easier to get data out of the Norman DDB than it is the Thatcher one! I remember this vividly... Despite being a socliaist, like many of my kind I was born with silver spoon in my mouth and as Vek and others will tell you, sometimes speak like I have a golfball in my mouth and a carrot up my arse...anyway, the ridiculously expensive school my folks bankrupted themselves to send me to bought three of these machines and I seem to remember being rather impressed with them but can recall the geeks ranting about 'data compatability' .... This does seem to be a huge issue for the tekkies trying to extract the data Only a country responsible for the SHERPA van could have possibly come up with this heath robinson affair! Brilliant!
M'coli Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 A scene from Ullapool harbour - is that a Commer in the foreground?
