New Austin shite

Seems there's a bit of love for these here, and as this one is pretty shite, thought some folks here might like it ;)

So I was browsing the Freeads section of the A30/35 site when I spotted an advert for an A35 project for sale in Brighton. The man selling it had owned it since 1982, and started to restore it in 1995 when he had to stop work for various reasons, and it's been in the garage since then. Anyway I was going to go down and see this last week, unfortunately I didn't feel very well on the day so decided to buy it sight unseen with the idea that if it was well past it I would get my money back in spares. It was delivered on a trailer this afternoon, and I'm happy to say, I don't think it's past it - yet

That's the original front wing, it's not bad but I haven't decided to refit it yet as (surprisingly) the fibreglass one is a good fit. There's plenty of repair sections with the car.

Interior is pretty tatty, but it's all there. Door cards are good

This looks a bit iffy, it's all solid as far as I can see but the filler needs reshaping

Connected up a battery and after cleaning some connections at the fuse box got all the electrics working, apart from the heater motor and horn, both bad connections I imagine.

Looking through the paperwork it had a very expensive partial restoration at A30-35 specialists Bedworth Car Valet in Coventry in 1989 which involved repairs to the front panel, inner wings and new sills. It's also got resleeved brakes all round which surprisingly work fine, if a little sticky. And as a bonus I found £8.69 in one of the ashtrays!

Going to attempt to fire it up at the weekend :D

Thats lovely, I've always loved the look of these things. I may be venturing into the depths of mega-old rammle myself soon. I hope its as nice as this one!

Another cuddly Austin. I personally have no objection to plastic wings as long as they fit. My 2CV has placca rear wings. They're great! They've been biffed into a couple of times and no signs of damage at all. Hmmm. Bouncy.

I'd proper love an A35, that one is ace, love everything about it - plates, wank paint the lot. Another one for the "One day" list

Fantastic! I relly hope to one day be in a position to play with one of these again. Very good news if the brakes are OK. :D

Looks like the perfect project to keep you busy over summer! I like the second photo, A35s x2 and a Landcrab undercover :)

Brilliant! I really love the A30/35 - it has such character and always gets waved at - I am a huge fan of these 'peoples' cars - simple, affordable and hugely relevant in todays expensive world...well bought and saved AD

Thanks! I made a start stripping down the cooling system yesterday and have now got some parts on order, thermostat, 'stat housing, waterpump, top and bottom hoses and a service kit. I've already got a new radiator ready to go on, so with a bit of luck it should be running quite soon.

That's one of the main reasons I like them, they are very cheap to run and maintain, and obviously Sherpa Sports drivers hate them.

Feck off spammer.

I must have missed this thread before. Great work AD, lol'd at the pic' of your trainer through the floor. I can't wait to hear you've got her running! :D
