Halfrauds Rip Off

Recommended Posts

I brought a set of roof bars off Ebay at the weekend, supposedly tailored to fit my works Astra, there were Genuine GM parts, but both bars were for the front of the car. So I have been butchereing one of them to cut it down to fit further down the rails.

Anyway to make them fit I need to buy a M6 16mm Socket Cap (allen key head) screw - I only need one! Wilko and B&Q did not sell them, but screwfix do - £3.24 for 50, a bargain! I called up to check stock and the 4 nearest branches were out, I could have them delivered overnight but that would cost an extra £5. I look on Halford website and they stock them but 20mm long instead (will fit in the space) but they are £3.29 and only get 5! For my needs it doesn't matter I only need 1 and it was still the cheapest way to get it but it just show how much of a rip off retailers can be - I mean screwfix are not a charity either and I assume will be making a profit on them!

Should have just bought brand new Bars from Vauxhall and saved myself the hassle?

Soz but you're going to have to up your game if you want to mix it with the big boys of ranting. This is frankly poor. 0.8/10 MUST TRY HARDER

Get a trade card - you'll be amazed the difference it makes to the prices

This.

The batteries are the best laugh on the trade card. Retail of £80 and about £43.00 on the card and you just know they're still making money.

Pm me I know a fool proof way but dont like posting on a public forum

It will cost you a tenner from eBay

B & Q are as bad. £2.29 for about 5 small spouting bolts in a wee bag. Builders merchants will give you "two big handfuls" for a quid.

Halfrauds are a strange mis between the very clever and useful - ie the wiper blade refils and the downright larcenous

the cost of screws and fittings is obscene.

About 2 years ago I bought several plastic pack assortment boxes of every concievable nut, bolt, screw, fuse, trim clip, fastener, washer form a guy on ebay - cost me about 50 quid but there were hundreds one of the best things I have EVA DON

he's disappered from ebay though

These are indeed the Top 10 items to include in a quality rant, but bubbling under, threatening to burst into this top 10 are:

11. The coalition government

12. The Royal Wedding

13. Bankers

14. Petrol prices

15. BMWs your Dad's driven and that you've read about in Auto Express or What Car

16. Metros

17. Sherpa coupes/cabrios

18. Pikeys with HIABs

19. The Scrappage Scheme

20. Google image search

As for D701 SWL, this seemed to be an incident where time and space folded in on itself leading to two people who had experienced exactly the same things during their life (perhaps one came from a parallel universe?), but who had different usernames on here, searching for the same car.

It looked to all the world as if it was someone trying to talk to themselves via this messageboard and was a complete mong who'd forgotten they'd already registered under a different name before, but apparently it WAS a space/time freak occurence. Either that or they wouldn't 'fess up to being a mong.

It's all here:

Make what little sense of it you can.

Goody, can I join in with the ranting?

21. Old VWs with no paint and a roofrack full of cardboard suitcases / old prams

22. New VWs regardless of paint/roofrack status

23. EBAY LISTINGS IN RED CAPITAL LETTERS

24. Victorian gothic body kits on Corsas

25. A-frame regulations

26. MOT testers / people who complain about MOT testers (delete as appropriate)

27. People asking five figures for a two door Mk1/2 Escort 1.1

28. Excessive and poor application of filler...

29. ...especially when not apparent in rainy night-time camera phone shot on eBay

30. Need for Vaseline when paying the bill at Kwikfit

Feeling better now :)

Surely a top 40 could be easily achieved?

Or even a top 100?

Halfords vs specialist retailers: See also "B&Q vs Specialist Retailers", "PC World vs Specialist Retailers" etc etc.

You pay for convenience. The fact they are open till 8 when your local motor factors ain't, or they're based in town where screwfix is out on some industrial park somewhere. Everything has a price.

As for the rant, try throwing in a mention of Princess Diana and Paedophiles. Together, if you're brave.
