Best Mingebag Veg Oil Diesels?

I've just been landed with a 300 plus mile round trip once a week for work which is currently being undertaken by my 2.0 Cortina - great - but killing me on fuel, so I think its time again to pick up a veg oil minge mobile to cut back on costs

 

What are the best choices for sub - £500 snotters that will happily sup the veg?

I think you just have to keep your eyes open for sub £500 cars with a Bosch pump. I'll let you know if I come across any.

That Prima-powered Maestro that was on ebay would have been ideal, Bosch injector pump that hearts any old shite.

Bit of a miserable experience but I can vouch for those engines running on veg oil happily.

These engines are supposed to be the holy grail for running on veg oil (the later one less so as the multivalve engines are prone to gumming up) as they have an in-line injector pump like you'd find on an old tractor engine. I'd like to try one

I'd be weary of anything from peugeot/citroen, sometimes the injector pumps are not suitable for veg. we killed a pug 205 diesel running it on veg.

I have a leyland daf 200 with the perkins prima 2.0d, that seems to like veg just fine,

A bloke in work ran his M reg fiesta 1.8D on neat veg, no problem there either

Citroen BX, Citroen ZX, Astra Mk3 (Isuzu) or Peugeot 205 would be first on my list, obviously with a Bosch pump because as others have said veg oil will destroy Lucas/Cav pumps.
