Remember this badermatic love bomb?

Well after a bit of fettling, replacing of parts and polishing it was passed on to a member of the Maestro owners club, who had suffered an unfortunate incident with his old Maestro and needed a replacement. Apparently a neighbour had reversed off their drive and straight into the side of his Maestro, doh! As part of the deal I took his damaged motor as part-ex... and here it is!

Heres the damage....

Its a 1300cc clubman with a CAT, 60k, 4 speed box. AWESOME!

The bump hasn't really caused any serious damage, the rear door is caved in and the pillar has moved slightly, but i've adjusted out any wonkyness on the door hinges and door catch pins so everything fits correctly now. The rear door was replaced today too, although the only door available at short notice was a slightly crusty white door, I'm not sure if its actually an improvement on the Maestros previous appearance but atleast it now looks like someone is trying to repair it. I wont bother getting it painted, i'll just wait until a green door becomes available and stick that on.

Other ailments include a slightly tired interior (replacement sourced) a dented rear bumper (replacement in shed) and a tiny rust hole on the N/S/R arch- should repair easily. Its got a month left on the MOT and about 4 months tax left- I recon it should get another MOT without too much grief.

The Maestro was subject to an insurance claim, There's a probability that its going to be a CAT D insurance write off. I have sent the log book off in my name and hopefully it should come back ok and I shouldn't get any stupid letters from the DOOVLA regarding VIC checks e.t.c. Time will tell.

All in all it should make a great mini-project, and one which I should actually be able to drive about rather than having it sat in the garage. Roll on better weather!

Nice. They go quite well with the torquey A-series motor. Don't remember mine being too much of a hardship at motorway speeds either, despite only 4 speeds.

Result!

Is that a Ledbury, Bulgarian, Apple or a genuine late Rover one Tim?

Its a genuine late Rover group car with a montego interior, It was registered in 1993 and I think production stopped in early '94 should be easier to insure as the later ones are classed as kit cars.

Cor! As Dolly says, they cruise happily at motorway speeds (start to get a tad noisy about 60 though) and mine does 50mpg! Has it got a manual choke? Getting rid of the autochoke on mine was the best thing I ever did - they're useless.

Overall - top save 8)

That's a pretty nice car, even with a dinked door :)

I thought it was black until you wrote that, and was pondering the possibility of finding another one or two white doors and making a HORRENDOUS blues-brothers tribute machine.

Its British racing green metallic, I have seen a few MG maestros in this colour, but no bog standard ones such as this. There are black stripes on the doors, but the green is so dark you can barely see them. The replacement white door has an identical stripe, but as its a white door the stripe sticks out like a sore thumb!

BTW, it indeed has manual choke! 50MPG sounds good, I have an LPG kit kicking about too so with that it would provide the equilivant of 100MPG!! possibly...

Went on a 6th form pre-uni weekend to Chester courtesy of McApline, zoomed up the M6 in a 1300 Maestro to the nuke sub spot at Barrow - way comfier than an equivalent Golf. 95 all the way. Engine was a bit obvious, but pulled ok up hills at 90, 4 up.
