or, just flog it to someone who just need an cheap car and will chuck it when finnished with it?

Im not a huge fan of fwd Pugs, but, this morning have taken in part ex, an R plate 3061.8 GLX auto 5 door, 1 owner, 59k, and seems totaly mint, it has a trade value of just about bugger all, and ilthough not that unusual, i reckon in a year or two, it might be, so, do I stick it in my shed and forget about it with the rest of them, or just punt it on.

ok, not amswering my question though.:) I reckon i could buy it off the boss for £300 ish, i am pretty certain its never gonna be worth less than that, but, is it worth keeping, would we be chuffed to find that car, in say 10 yrs, which is what i am hoping to be able to do, i have some storage space, but its not unlimited,I have 18 cars at the moment, and dont want to fill it with shite no noe will ever want.

Agreed. Everyday French cars are unlikely to ever get valuable. 304s are still cheap, let alone 306s.

That said, maybe one day the 306 will have some value as arguably the last nice Peugeot? I still love the styling of them.

och, it not about the money, its about what is going to be available to drive about in in say 2020. I'll stick it away in the shed next to the renner 25, aerodeck vvti ,subaru impreza and wee fiat as long term hibernaters. I am determined to still to be driving percieved shite for a long time to come.

Old mother Hatred could do with something like that 306 if you're selling it.

Trade value of bugger all? It's a silver 306 5-door with an autobox! There's a near-identical one on eBay for £1295, I would say closer to a grand, but if a grand is bugger all I'd love to be on your Christmas card list. Get it sold.

I'd punt it out, It's a basic silver 306 at the end of the day, It's never going to be exciting is it!, I mean look at it this way, It's a 12 year old now, in 2020 it will be a 22 year old Peugeot, a equivalent 22 year old Pug would be a 1988 E plate 205 1.6 Automatic which is worth fook all and will never get anyone excited or turn heads at a show.

Get it sold!

A 205 automatic would excite me. Look at that bonnet bulge!

sorry i buy the decent cheapies, the rest go to copart, but considering an audi a4 b7 quattro can be had for the price of a years road tax on said car,you then realise the real value of cars, and being in the trade you realise most people haven't got a clue about car values and massivly over value their own car , or they use parkers.

The garage offered me £2000 on the Micra today and £1500 on the Bora, webuyanyshitcar.com offered me £2000 for the Bora, I'll try my luck on autotrader/ebay first i think, The only reason cars are worth fuck all is before the garages won't offer other they are worth.

what are the details of them,i can cap/glasses guide them tommorow at work, then you will have an idea if its a true reflection of the value of your cars, gimmie the details of the skode aswell if u want.

Are there regional variations in the CAP books?

I'd like to know...

For instance anything over about 2 weeks old in Scotland is considered 'old hat', as any and every council cum hell-hole seems populated with new-reg arnold-clark sticker'd stuff, whereas down here in the sexy south that would make ok money... then shift to wales and the west country where a pez auto PSA is worthless, but a (red) diesel Pug is highly prized treasure...

Posted

don't think so,but down in the not so sexy south, you certainly pay too much for motors, maybe thats why we can all buy nice shiny cars at uncle arnies.

Posted

It was a total shock to the system to be honest, the whole "Uncle Arnies" thing, and I still struggle to get my head round it. Plus the rather ambilvalent attitude to mileage 'rectification' north of the border....

Posted

uncle arnie is the cheapest in europe for almost any car,and mileage correction goes on everywhere as it always has, national car hire companies seem to like it aswell.

Posted

Not having a pop like, I bet mileage adjustment does go on anywhere, but mainly on MOR stuff that disinterests me.

I am amazed by the disparity in attitude towards motor vehicles between what would be the 'norm' here and that up in the chillier climes.

Boys up there on low wages were all driving about in less than 3 year old kit even when they were on just over min. wage, alright get some neets on and you're maybe making 15 or 16 a year, but that still is a surprise to me. I think that about these part there is still more a prevailing attitude of a car for life sort of thing. Whether it's because the living costs are more or the weather kills them slower, or we have less to prove I do not know.

Posted

i do know what you mean, but cars are much cheaper up here than down your way, maybe they aren't paying as much a month as you think?

Posted

I'd be interested to know.

For a comparison... my friend bought an Audi A3 2.0TDi S-line from a dealer here and put down £2.5k and is paying £400 a month

(this seems utterly insane to me)

I would consider buying new or nearly new if the figures stacked up (which they don't)...

Say if I came up to the central belt looking to buy a family car (e.g. Kia Karens 7st or similar).... what would we be talking?

am away for the night, will have a look in the morning,pm me more info if you want.

There must be some real differences up there, if a vehicle like that turned up around here there'd be a massive car trader bunfight over it. Within the week it would be on a pitch with a new MOT and about £800-1000 profit on it. People like 306s and that's an auto one in silver with nice mileage. If it needs any bits, every local yard has a few of them kicking about, motor factor parts are cheap/easily available, etc. Bar being in the higher tax bracket, it's about as good as it gets.

On the other hand, a B7 Quattro would probably be passed by - performance stuff can be sat around for yonks and if it needs any bits it'll probably be manufacturer only and could lose all profit in no time. Fair enough if you were buying it for yourself though.

Posted

thats no really how it works, we have trade cars like that 306 that will have to go round the block a few times before being bought and its always sold at below cap average, the audi isnt a performance car ! plenty of aftermarket parts available just like any other car .

Posted

Id punt it on, its never going to be worth much as its not a quick one like a GTI-6 and even then id be dubious as they were never exactly 'cult cars' like the 205 GTI was. Plus its a 5 door bader-matic. Get rid!!

Posted

Nice car but another euro box, sell it on, make a few quid and invest in some real shite like mine! :D

Posted

Another vote for 'punt it on', here too. I just can't see it being worth much in another ten years.

For true rareity and autoshite value, I would have been half tempted to store it if it had been a 'Sedan' model. I suspect they'll be pretty much extinct in five years, yet alone ten.
