Lurker saying hello

I've been an occasional visitor for a while and always enjoy reading the posts on here as most things aren't taken too seriously, so thought I should introduce myself. I'm also on RR and a few other forums, so you may have seen me somewhere else as I do keep the same username. I'm not sure if my collection of cars can be classed as shite worthy but they're all a bit shit in one way or another ;)

1998 Daihatsu Cuore Avanzato - UK spec (659cc, turbo) ... slightly broken

1998 Daihatsu Cuore Avanzato .. Harry Hockly built Rally car ... not at all broken, daily use when snowy.

1993 Range Rover Classic - LPG ... slightly broken

1990 Scirocco Scala ... awaiting gearbox change

1990 Sabb 900 T16s notchback ... daily, so not broken

1988 Renault Alpine GTA V6 Turbo ... hopefully with added MOT this weekend

1985 Daihatsu Charade convertible ... missing engine, well its on the kitchen table.

Crikey. You've got two cars on my wish list at least! I love small Japanese stuff, and pretty much anything French! Welcome.

Cheers guys.

autofive: I'm probably not the right person to ask about owning/running an Alpine. I did prob 2000 miles in it before the waterpump died. It has electrical issues, some resolved, some not, wipers and fuel gauge now work, but solenoid door openers, central locking, heaters and widnows are broken/tempramental. I'm still not sure if the headgaskets are gone after the waterpump failure, but I'm praying they're ok.

On the plus side it goes like absolute stink (when running) and handles quite nicely. Fuel consumption wasn't horrendous, but as the fuel gauge and speedo are tempramental I may be wrong on that, but 25ish mpg if my vague calculations can be believed.

Alexg - if you want the charade back you can have it cheap ;) I mainly bought it to stop it from getting scrapped. I really don't have the time to get it back on the road.

Welcome aboard! How does something the size of a shoebox go, once it's been graced with the hand of Harry Hockly?

most of the issues with the Alpine you mention apply to my current Scimitar, so i feel your pain :D

looked at the P/bucket photos - did you run this car on the track a few times? how did perform under heavy cornering?

It is so much fun, for the challenge series it was built for they weren't allowed to modify the engine, so thats pretty much standard and the scaffolding in the back probably weighs more than the plastic trim they ripped out. However it has a modified ecu (revs to 10k) and its on boost pretty much constantly ... the springs/shocks are uber stiff, so its very rattly on road, but awesome when being thrown around.

Permanent 4wd was nice whilst going round Cadwell, I could take hall bends without braking, just lift off the throttle ;)

Autofive: I didnt' have the Alpine on track, those pics are from the the previous owner who did a hillclimb in it and apparently they handle the corners quite well, but I doubt I'll use it on track as one mistake and the car would be write off ... the joys of plastic.

Haha, no room time or money! I remember this being up for sale on RR after I sold it, I guess you bought it from there... I remember seeing a quality pic of it on track at one of the RR gatherings. Glad you saved it!

I was at the Gathering in '09 when it went round, and I remember it being seriously quick. It shit on some pretty powerful stuff and I don't remember the driver having to lift off or brake much. I also remember the organisers having some difficulty classifying it, because of the tiny displacement and turbo.
