What can i say other than wow! It's great that you made an epic save on such an unloved an forgotton car by many people can't remember the last time i saw a polonez or caro.

Though do know of a fso 125p pickup in red think it could be an f reg but can't be sure thats been left on someones garden for at least 4 years now in red with a truckman style top on it. It's on the outskirts of tamworth on the old A5 going towards lichfield near hints. See it nearly everyday would go great with the polonez.

Is it for sale Burnside and in a state where it could be saved?

Posted

It's sat behind a gate but is clearly visible from the road. Though being left on grass wouldn't have done it any favours i should think but seams complete an orignal from what i can see. I'll go up there an ask the question if you like? No idea if it's for sale an how much if it is though.

Posted

Yeah would appreciate it if you don't mind asking.

No problem i'll go round now an hopefully get an answer then let you know.

Ok thanks very much, I found it on google street view, doesn't look too bad!

Hi benno managed to speak to someone at the house. The lad said it belongs to his mother and would have to ask her 1st if it was for sale so i've left my phone number to let me know. I didn't get to have a look at it up close sadly got the impression that at this stage it was best not to seam too pushy.

What i have found out so far is it's been off the road 10 yrs! An that was because the fuel filler neck came off so they got a pipe to replace it but never got round to fixing it. They orignally brought it in fazley just 5 mile down the same road the old A5 didn't say when they brought it. He thought it is a G reg an had only done 20,000 miles when they did and doesn't think it's covered many more in the time they owend it. There uncle was driving it for a while he said but didn't say if it was his uncle who orignally brought it or his mother. Though there is austin A30 that been left close to it that he said belonged to his uncle.

Maybe his mother inherrited them both or somthing along them lines ?

Guess benno i'll have to wait for a phone call an let you know if/when i hear something.

Thanks Burnside really appreciate your time and effort doing that, restored my faith in human kind! :D

Now that looks the Nuts!!

It is a shame they didn't do any Polonez models that were a bit sporty as i think they would have looked quite good?

Benno,

There was an Fso Polonez dealer manual on Ebay last week ,i wonder if it is still on there?

cheers

All this FSO talk has made me want a 125p Estate.... What are you doing to me!!!. Mind you it's probably better than the Daewoo Matiz I am buying off of a friend. Are these so shite that they would not be welcome here?.

Posted

Yeah I've seen that one when you posted it before Tayne, this other one doesn't look in such as bad shape. Only estate I can remeber seeing recently is the one in the museum some of the shiters went to last year. I think they do occasionally sell some of there cars so it might come up.

Yeah I saw that manual yesterday Richie, it finished without a bid at the starting price of 99p. Was going to get in touch with the seller but found some more dotted about the net that I thought I would look at first. All I want to do is get behind the dash so I can fix the fuel gauge light.

Ha ha ha!

Yeah you know you need an FSO in your life Mate,it would look awsome next to the Riva estate for sure!

All you got to do is find one now

cheers

Here's a picture of a very young (well, 10 years old!) Autoshiter, complete with long trousers, proudly standing by his Dad's brand new FSO 1500 estate car. Nick-named "The Tank" by the family, the vinyl seating was unbearably hot in the summer and then smell from it was strange, to say the least....

Sorry about getting the size wrong!

Is it right to feel more envious of an FSO owner than a Bentley owner?

I'm new on here, thanks to Rich. I'm Craig who went and got the Polonez and now it's running it has the odd issue.

1. It jumps out of first gear

2. It's brakes are appalling, definate need of fixing

3. It has a dent the size of the roof in the roof

4. It has more life in the interior than it really wants

5. It's MPG on it's first runs was 0.3

But all in all it's pretty good, the moment where it covered Rich in petrol/water gunk out of it's missing spark plug hole was comedy gold.

Posted

Brakes are easy; discs all round and the parts are still available, calipers likewise. Check hoses, pipes and then bleed; can't be that bad to put right. Dent is the roof I can't help with, and the wildlife sounds interesting! The MPG figure sounds marginally worse than the Queen Mary!

Is the soaking of Richie on Youtube? Good value!!!

Hi Guys,

Well done Craig for getting on here!!

Craig and his wife Jenny are true Autoshite Legends!!

When i got blasted in the face by skanky water/petrolly liquid it completely threw me cos i didn't expect that lol

You had to be there of course lol

It was funny though lol

The funny thing about the Fso's over here is back in the day when they were very popular ,a lot of people had them but in comparison to other cars they really were terrible.

Now there is only a handfull left people have realised that although a bit cheap and cheerfull they still have more character then some of these bubble style cars that are being sold and because they are so rare they have become more desirable as they are classic cars now and have to be treated as such.

I would sooner have an Fso than a Bentley mainly because there are no aires and graces with them and you could park one up and know it would still be there when you came back.

(Everyone probably thinks i am very poor or very old) lol

The funniest thing is i love the banter that goes with these cars,it really has people divided on how they feel about them, thankfully most people like them now lol

Just my two pennies worth

cheers

'80s Bentleys look like they were designed by FSO.

Calipers are the same as 6o's - 80's Fiats -if yours are seized..

I had a dream last night that I owned an FSO Polonez - one with the original rear light treatment no less. I was so disappointed when I woke up.

Posted

Oh Dollywobbler!

That is a shame Mate,i hate it when that happens! lol

The Polonez' are still out there in old boys garages or maybe in the west countrys scrap yards??

If you really want one you could always take a mini holiday to Poland as there are thousands out there!!

Or if you go on Flick r there are Polonez sightings from Spotted laurels pics,if you get in touch with him he is based suffolk way, maybe he could point you in the direction of where they were spotted??

Might be worth a shot if you really fancy one?

Or there is a company Benno and i have found to get parts in Staffordshire, you could alwys leave them your number incase one comes up as they still a lot of spares locally so i was told??

hope that helps

cheers

My pickup has decided to start cutting out on me since I ran out of fuel the other day. It must have sucked up some junk from the tank. Thinking the best thing to do is clean/ replace the fuel filter and stick some wynns in a full tank.

Front ones are plentiful but the rear ones can be hard to get as loads of X1/9 owners try to get them for their cars- same caliper but larger pistons-shared with the 132. http://www.brakeparts.co.uk/ have them listed but I don't think anyone has been able to get them yet- they do list seals and rebuild kits too. If you do know of a supplier, let me know!!

80's Bentleys look more like Lada Riva 1600s....... They even have a nice chrome grille and the chrome cappings on the bumpers!. Ah the dear old vomiting FSO, it was great!. We were pushing it backwards and forwards in gear to free of a semi siezed engine, I was at the front and thought "Ooh look, its starting to spit a bit from that empty plug hole" then a good hard shove sent the fountain over Rich.
